Hiram Monserrate Finds Supporter In Anti-Gay Reverend

Hiram Monserrate has found one constituency that will stand behind him as he tries to fight his way back into the state Senate—people who don't like gays. Thanks to his vote against the same-sex marriage bill, the former Queens legislator has won the support of Corona Rev. Ricardo Reyes. "I have seen a generation sunk down by the gay community," Reyes told the Queens Village Times. "If we vote for a gay marriage situation ... we are sending our children to practice something against the Bible."

The Voice points out that Reyes claims he represents 612 churches—which means a lot of possible supporters for the expelled politician's "Yes We Can" party campaign against Jose Peralta for the March 16 special election. Most Democratic leaders have rallied behind Peralta, and Monserrate opponents have lashed out against him with mailings that recall the domestic incident that lead to his ouster. Monserrate's rivals have started a website, and are even attacking the former Councilman and cop on his 2008 campaign website.

The Times reports that opponents have taken over the comments section of www.hirammonserrate.com and left messages including "You couldn't be a bigger scumbag if you tried. Please f*** off forever" and "Douche bag. I can't believe this is still up." In other crazy Queens Democratic politics news, moments after former Monserrate chief of staff and current Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras emailed supporters to tell them she was endorsing Peralta, someone slashed her tires, according to the Queens Courier.

This is America, a free Nation. A nation with laws within our states and societies. Those laws were established for our founding Fathers, people with values and principles. The marriage between a man and a woman it’s been a way of life since the beginning of this nation. There always been gay and lesbian people, history shows how they were discriminated and sometimes brutalized, but they always have to adapt to the societies in order to satay alive. But in the last 4 or 5 decades they have gain power in modern societies, turning things around, laws, believes, the way society thinks. In Europe (the old world) this is not knew, there’s more countries with gay rights than in America or other region in the world. Nowadays the battle continues, a group who no longer remained in the closet, who doesn't want to adapt to the society anymore, instead of they want the society adapt to them. In these modern society the antegonic force seems that have been shifted, because people who all their lifetime have stand for marriage between a man and a woman, now are criticized of racist, for not been open minded.

I respect gay people, I admire them. But there’s a point in life, that every single individual have to stand for what he believes is right, not for himself, not for a small group but for our communities and societies and especially for our children and future generation. I understand that every time a individual stands up for something, there’s always going to be responsibilities and people that may not like it, but that forms the character of a person and societies even nations. I want my children and my grandchildren get to know what is a marriage as my parents and my grand parents did, is the free union of a man and a woman.

"If we vote for a gay marriage situation ... we are sending our children to practice something against the Bible." And if we vote for you Hiram, we're dong pretty much the same thing.

  • Atarigirl

I am so so confused I thought Hiram was gay? Isn't the reason he was fighting with his girlfriend because she said she had heard rumors he was gay? So Confusing...

Queens Assemblyman Jose Peralta landed more than $500,000 in taxpayer money for a nonprofit that never filed federal tax records, has no employees and has been inactive for more than two years.

Ferreras has been corrupted by Quinn, she doesn't represent the people anymore.

“If we vote for a gay marriage situation ... we are sending our children to practice something against the Bible.”

Yep. It's well documented: the only reason people even choose to be straight is so they can get married. If gay marriage were legal, all of our children would be gay.

How can Hiram Monserrate run again? The state senate voted to expel him because of his conduct. But even if he wins, how does that change anything? Could they just vote to expel him again?

  • nicemarmot

Watch him win because the church people are the only ones who show up to vote.
