Cryptic Cop Codes Unscrambled

phpQCKAJTPM.jpg Our newsmap can sometimes become muddled with confusing codes; the often times cryptic language comes over the newswire and police scanners with little more information. Today City Room translates some of the jargon, after they wondered what it meant that an injured worker was being "packaged." According to the FDNY, by the way, “Packaged is terminology for preparing a victim for transport. Stabilize him, on a backboard or Stokes basket, or on a gurney, depending on his injuries, and ready for transport to a hospital."

Some others that pop up here a lot: "Likely" means a person is likely to die; "Jumper down" means someone is jumping from a building or bridge (more specifically, "Jumper up" is when they are on the structure, and "Jumper down" is when that person has already jumped); an EDP is an emotionally disturbed person; Cooping is when an officer is sleeping on duty. And so on, and so on, and marshmallows. Are there any others that have had you confused? Put them in the comments and we'll do our best to translate.

In Brownsville, they refer to the people living in the Projects as "savages".

  • Loulou

No. Savages is referred to people that act up and do criminal shit anywhere they are. Sadly if your in the projects in brownsville you have more of a chance of seeing savages.

"In The Bag" or bagged is incorrect. The terminology refers to an EDP being put in a big canvas restraint that resmbles a bag.
