Dolphin Spotted In Newtown Creek

Just hours after a coyote was spotted in Chelsea and a seal turned up on the shores of Staten Island, a teacher from the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School reportedly saw a dolphin swimming in the Newtown Creek. According to a press release issued by the environmental group Riverkeeper, the educator and a colleague alerted authorities after seeing a dolphin in the fetid body of water, which could soon be deemed a Superfund site like the Gowanus Canal.

"It's heartbreaking to see such a beautiful creature in such terribly polluted water," said John Lipscomb, Riverkeeper Patrol Boat Operator. "A few years ago, we saw a whale in the Gowanus Canal. Sadly and typically, when these mammals come into urban inland waterways, it's because there is an underlying illness and the outcome is not a good one. We hope this dolphin finds its way out." In recent years, dolphins have been spotted swimming in the waters off of the Bronx, Staten Island and Queens.

Being an intelligent creature, ill, and a non-gun owner, we're assuming it moved into these waters as knowing they would serve as a coup de gras!

I saw a dolphin in the East River while waiting at the North bound FDR 96th St exit about a week or two ago. I saw his fin about 5 times before I decided I wasn't just really high. It must have been good hunting for him because there were a bunch of birds feeding in the same area.

I saw a dolphin yesterday in the East river under the Manhattan bridge yesterday around 2:00pm. I was on my lunch time run and me and a few old chinese guys and some homeless guys watched it for about 5 minutes. It was really cool, but i'll bet he's not all right in the dolphin brain to be swimming in these waters.
