Video: Dog Encounters Seal On Staten Island

"Dog meets seal" sure sounds cute, but we're a bit concerned about this little guy in the video. SILive reports that Julio, the chocolate Lab, and his owner Andrew Maira encountered this seal in the sand of Great Kills Park on Staten Island. As Maira says in the video, "that's a sick seal." We're attempting to find out if he called anyone to report the sighting.

Seal at Great Kills Park

This isn't the first time a seal has been spotted on the Island; this guy was seen basking in the sun back in January... and there are plenty of others.

Poor thing looked disoriented and confused. Perfect for Polar Bears, not for dogs. :(

Dogs and seals are closely related, phylogenetically speaking. The dog was saying hi to his seal cousin.

The dog was saying, "Fuck you! Get outta my yard!"

What's the point of being a pet owner if you're unable to curb your pet's aggressiveness? The dog either didn't understand the command to "be nice" or was too excited to stop. The seal was surely stressed both by the barking dog and the man coming too close.

Lesson: never use your full name on the internets!

Guys, that's not a seal, it's the Montauk Monster. get the net.

What an asshole. Put your damn dog on a leash and stop tortuering the poor baby seal.

I saw a seal on February 20th at Fort Tilden. The thing was rather "tame" and nonchalant for a wild animal, which got me wondering if it was sick. It was the first seal I'd seen in the wild though, and I don't know how they are supposed to act.

    Damn.

Before I call this guy a typical Staten Island cocksucker for not trying to help the seal, please confirm if anything was done.

Looks like Mr. Maira tossed the ball at the seal to charge his dog up with the hope of winning The Staten Island Home Grown Genius Film Award. I also look forward to learning if Mr. Maira left with out calling for help.

Love how the dog is freaking. the fuck. out.

  • Any other news about the seal? I really hope that he did call someone if he thought he looked sick!
