Three Alarm Fire Destroys Financial District Bar

2010_02_ryanmaguires.jpg Early this morning, a three alarm fire broke out in the basement of a building on Cliff Street in Manhattan's Financial District. According to WABC 7, a bartender at Ryan Maguire's Ale House "smelled smoke just after 2:30 a.m." The fire, which reportedly started in an outlet in a closet, spread to the first floor, seriously damaging the restaurant and bar, while smoke reached the apartments above it (residents were treated for smoke inhalation). The FDNY is investigating the cause.

is that grimy bar on gold - just south of fulton street still there?

That'd be Ryans (just Ryans). It was demolished 3 years ago and undergoing residential construction.

Sad as this bar is on my block (whole building looked uninhabitable this morning), but far from the last decent bar in the neighborhood. Killarney Rose and Ulysses Folk House are great. Both have awesome food to boot.

This was the last decent bar south of Chambers.

    What a shame.
