Bloomberg for Prez? As an Independent?

2009_10_bloommcduck.jpg

Despite his newly minted status in the party (before 2007 he was a Republican, before 2001 a Democrat), Independents want Mayor Bloomberg as their presidential candidate in 2012! The chairman of the party's Minnesota branch—the very same that helped raise WWF champ Jesse "the Body" Ventura to the governorship—has asked that the NY mayor give "serious consideration" to a White House run. "The two-party system has catastrophically failed America," said Jack Uldrich. "America needs a serious, credible independent to right our sinking ship and get it back on track to a prosperous future."

A spokesman for Bloomberg—who's been denying presidential ambitions since considering a run in 2008—told the Daily News "The only thing the mayor is focused on is being mayor." Still, another Independent chimed in with his support: New York State Party Chairman Frank MacKay said he would be "100% behind" the mayor if he decided to launch a campaign as an Independent.

Despite his denials, the Independents aren't the only ones buzzing about a Bloomberg presidential bid. Last week the mayor relocated some of his enormous fortune from a private equity firm founded by an old pal, ten months after it became the subject of a pension fund scandal. Following the announcement the Times suggested, "His decision to relocate his money may fuel speculation about his political ambitions: he is considered a potential candidate in the presidential campaign of 2012."

bloomberg is a perfect modern example of when democracy fails the people

  • HBHB

Hell no! Actually, scratch that... Fuck no!

  • Shinobi Shaw

I think Bloomie has a good chance (and I am not a big fan), he knows where the flow of consciousness of the American people is going and is setting himself up perfectly.

I knew quickly that he might run for president the moment he started to go against the Federal Reserve etc.

He is establishment posing as an "independet populist."

    BS.

  • longacre

The past three dual-party elections haven't done much good for the nation, have they? Bloomberg has no chance of winning, but he's the only third-party candidate with any $. I say go for it and shake things up a bit.

  • JacqueMehoff

who put's this stuff out? I mean, really.

he barely won a bought 3rd term.

who's really stroking his ego to get him to run?

  • Papercutninja

HAH. While i like the guy ok, there is no way a "-Berg" is getting elected as President. There are enough blue states (Mass and Cali spring to mind) that he wouldn't even win, not to mention red states.

  • theboneranger

this whole thing is the biggest fairy tale i've ever seen.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

And this nonsense will be fueled for this 3 years by Bloomberg papers' New JOKE Post, Daily News and New Joke Times.

  • Snoopy

Anything to get him out of NYC is fine with me.

"America needs a serious, credible independent to right our sinking ship and get it back on track to a prosperous future."

    HAHAHAHA

  • newport27

No. I want him to return the $10 billion he extorted back to NYC before he goes anywhere.

  • zpk

Here we go with this nonsense again.

  • NannyState

When Bloomberg gets to teabagging, all we'll be smelling is Republican sweat.

  • Daniel
