Video: Hipsters Falling On Ice

Remember when you fell on that patch of ice on North 12th and Bedford? Your embarrassment was caught on tape and will now live forever on the internet. One Williamsburg voyeur says he "noticed 4 out of every 5 people that walked by ate it on the ice there." Instead of warning the unfortunate pedestrians or throwing some salt down, he hit record and later uploaded the montage to YouTube:

If you want to exact your revenge, his name is right there watermarked on to the video and, well, you can probably find him at the Turkey's Nest.

UPDATE: The person behind the lens, Paul McKenna, took the video down—leaving us to live in a world where our children, and children's children, will never get to see hipsters falling on ice... and it's all your fault. He told us he took it down "due to the negative comments it was receiving on your site.... and people were posting address and links to find me. In addition others were posting that I should be beat up and hurt. So, although I understand this just a few comments out of many, I have to be cautious. This video was intended to be funny."

THIS IS FUNNY! What is wrong with you douche's complaining about it. So I guess all of you who do not think this is funny have never EVER laughed at someone or yourself falling on the ice?? hypocrites. THe elderly aside. (now that is not funny)

  • just saying

Right. Because everyone knows that only the elderly get broken bones, concussions, herniated discs, etc. from slipping on ice. This is not the same thing as "pie in the face" humor.

From the YouTube description posted by Paul McKenna:

"Well here we were on N12 and Bedford Ave in Williamsburg and noticed 4 out of every 5 people that walked by ate it on the ice there. So we could have done one of two things: 1. Alert everyone and put up a sign OR 2. Set up my video camera and laugh for years to come. We chose 2. Enjoy."

Whatever--but as the saying goes: he who laughs last, laughs best.

Dude..... you're actually afraid of a bunch of hipsters coming after you? At worst you will get hit by a PBR or two. I want to see the hipster fall.

"nobody said walking down Bedford drunk to make the cool scene was going to be easy!"

    Hahaha!! :D

I agree that people need to develop a sense of humor about these things. I'm also late to the party and can't watch the video but I can only imagine what truly gruesome scene must have unfolded. It just goes to show how utterly unaware most people are of their surroundings, namely the ground they walk upon. Wake the f*** up and perhaps you will take those baby steps when you get to the next sheet of ice.

PLEASE re up this video. my friend recently slipped on ice and she hit her head real hard and needs a good laugh. She'd be full of lulz if she could see this. pretty please

After careful deliberation, Paul McKenna, age 28 and resident of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, wishes to inform everyone that he has decided not to pursue a career in video comedy.

He acknowledges that several people have expressed an interest in meeting him personally. However, he regretfully wants everyone to know that he will be unavailable at the Turkey's Nest dive in Williamsburg for the next 3 weeks--and possibly even longer.

  • i love the comments here by the people in the video....'asshole' etc etc...fucking epic.

    Wheres the video?

Someone got another linkl to it elsewhere?

I'm ready for the debates over the bicycle ice lanes! Here's what I propose - the bicyclists can get one of those ice spreaders and put it in their bike racks. They can de-ice the bike lanes, and if they see a sidewalk trouble spot, they can roll over and pitch in. I know, I know. Sidewalk ticketing. No worries. With the salt spreader, it's no longer just a "bike." Technicalities, technicalities!

  • barabbuspaul

Why not just throw some of the coffee that everyone seems to be carrying around all over the place these days down on the ice to dethaw it? Is it too expensive to throw on the ground? Is that what is making the health insurance unaffordable? You know coffee is a pain reliever, too. Just go by Oslo and get some more.

Now where is this video now? I want to see people falling down! Is he submitting it to America's Funnies Home Videos or something and there can't be simultaneous submissions? What's the story?

  • valeriob

Video removed by user. I guess I'm late on this one.

See what happens when you don't keep up with Gothamist on the weekends?

  • Machonachos

clearly the hours spent being the most misunderstood person in pennsylvania made it difficult to learn how to walk in the snow. get over it.

  • Madman

I'd take your girlfriend back to the Midwest with me, but I want nothing whatsoever to do with your right OR left hand.

  • 'The po po' and you call me dumb? ... and snarky? i saw your fall and i think you're just a lazy ass wuss waiting for a law suit to drop in your lap! learn to walk in the snow & ice before you call me dumb! dumb ass!

  • chickon

Not to be a downer, but this is an extremely high foot traffic corner and these icy sidewalks are unfortunately all too common in Greenpoint and Williamsburg. This particular spot is catty corner to a High School and is across from McCarren Park; young adults & families often walk around here during the day. It'd be real funny to see them slip and fall, right?

This sidewalk is in front of a construction site; these sidewalks are frequently not shoveled or salted and are dangerous. If 311 complaints aren't being heard, the neighbors should take responsibility and help out.

  • Chris

I'm an almost lifelong NY'er and live in the hood. So many people are so oblivious when they walk the neighborhood - they have no idea how to stay to the right and generally walk with their heads up their ass. Big up to the director for noticing the locals (most definitely) for being able to notice that there is ice on the ground. Baby steps, people!

It is also true that the owner of this lot that the sidewalk is on is a complete deadbeat and has no consideration that their sidewalk is a major part of the neighborhood.

  • The po po

thinks that those offended or are compelled to mention his misspelling of 'copyright' and poor 'soundtrack' are the very 'hipster sheep' he wanted to make fun of! more power to him! nobody said walking down Bedford drunk to make the cool scene was going to be easy! haul your ass back to CT if you can't handle the big city and its humor hounds!

Hahahaha, seriously? Your snarky comments just make you look dumb, your pic attached to your profile just makes you look dumber.
