Manhattan Bound F Train Failing Due to "Switch Problems"

021910f.jpg Wait, if you haven't left for work already be advised there are problems with the F and V trains this morning, so if you live along that line in Brooklyn or downtown, you may want to consider alternative modes of transport, like skipping or flying or praying. Gothamist's Ben Muessig is currently cooling his heels on the F train at Smith & Ninth Street; the conductor says they're holding the F at all of the stations "for a while." And this was posted to the MTA site about ten minutes ago: "Due to switch problems at the West 4th Street-Washington Square Station, Queens-bound F and V trains are running express from the Broadway-Lafayette Station to the West 4th Street-Washington Square Station." The D is also experiencing delays. PLEASE BE PATIENT.

This is the second time this week! This trail is really falling apart fast!

I am really getting tired of the MTA telling me to be patient. Why should I be "patient" with never ending incompetence.

This is happening almost everyday on the F train! It is more than enough reason to move from Carroll Gardens.

At least you have alternatives... try living/working on Roosevelt Island :(

  • Teddie Boy Eddie

Yeah, but the good news is the F won't run at all this weekend. No signal problems if you're on a shuttle bus.

  • brooklynbird

This happened earlier this week too. A G was stuck at Carroll Street, and another train at Bergen Street.

Took the bus and was late, but they have to resolve this problem...and stop raising fares!

A native New Yorker would live between 2 train lines, got off at 4th ave/9th street at the 1st sign of trouble, have other ways og getting to where they need to be...

That F train aint gonna be good for like the next 5 years minimum, the 9th street viaduct and corresponding train stations have to be replaced, or they will collapse, singal work hapening this weekend is a patch not a fix, that hiss, finding a train close to the f line in the Slope or the Terrace....ouch, that has gotta hart Marty....

the BP bought that house just as the values of that hood were pushed off a cliff with no train service, shody new construction and the left over ruff neck spawn of police/fire/city employees harrassing all the hipsters......

    I freakin' love Brooklyn..

People thought I was crazy for refusing to rent an apartment in Brooklyn that wasn't near at least two express trains. I live 3 blocks from 2/3/4/5 and 5 blocks from the Q/B and can walk to the A/C in twenty minutes. My apartment sucks, but as long as some lines are this unreliable I'll stick it out where I am.

I saw a D train at Queensboro Plaza on the N/W line this morning. Thought something was odd.

I got on the F at Avenue I around 7:00 to be at my office by 8. (I get off at Herald Square and the trip usually only takes about 45 minutes.) This morning, the train I was on stopped in the tunnel between B'way/Lafayette and W4th at 7:40...and didn't move again until 8:33 a.m. When I left the house, my husband said there was "police activity" at W4th, but I figured it would be cleared up by the time I got there. Silly me!

  • NattyB

    Whoa,

Your train was stopped for 53 minutes! That's crazy.

  • jibbly

No problems with the D this morning from Brooklyn (just got to the office 15 minutes ago.

  • jibbly

Looks like there were problems earlier though. Just saw this in my inbox with the time stamp 5:49 AM (3 hours ago): BKLYN-bound D trains, run on F line, btwn W. 4th St and Coney Island. Due to police investigation at W. 4th St.

i love it when the F train fails, then the F runs via the crosstown line and i get to work without having to make a transfer!

  • bklynbagel

this is an ongoing problem with the f. something is really wrong with our subway system. guess im walking to fulton this morning. ugh

  • scoboco

I had to take the G to the L, but someone just showed up at work and said the F is back, though slow...

  • Ishtar

Don't think you can take the E train as an alternative to get to Midtown East. That's a mess too.

  • poetofsorts

UGH getting to work was like a mini test. I should have gotten off the F train at W4 to take the B or D. But to my stupidity I listened to the condutor who said they would switch BACK to the F line after W4 then they said after 42nd (I needed to get to 47 Rockerfeller). WELL of course that didn't happened. It decided it was going to run on the E line.
