Now that the F is down in Brooklyn on certain, unspecified weekends—it's the perfect time to shut down a bridge in the same area. According to the Brooklyn Paper, the Union Street Bridge will be closed for repairs the next four Saturdays. Workers will be fixing the drawbridge, but note that the Third Street and Carroll Street bridges are nearby, should you begin to feel trapped.
A little bit of history: the Union Street Bridge was built in 1905, and rehabilitated in 1962. Forgotten-NY points out that it's a bascule bridge, which means it has "leaves weighted heavily on one side in order to balance and lift the bridge when raised." And a fun fact about one of its neighboring bridges—the Carroll Street Bridge was featured in the film Heaven Help Us, with Bud Melman playing the bridge operator.
