Ray's Candy Store Might Become a Noodle Shop

021810rays.jpg The saga continues! The Villager confirms that the landlord recently sent Ray an eviction notice, but that if he pays his rent by next Tuesday, they'll drop the case. However, what the landlord really wants is to replace Ray's with a noodle shop—just what the EV desperately needs! Ray says, “They told me they have a Chinese guy who can pay more money, and he will hire me as the night manager and keep me working here.” At least he'd still have a job, but we'd be out of a good egg cream!

Egg cream ramen noodles. Sounds like a perfect mash-up to me. You guys have no imagination. Oh, and by the way, this city was not only built on cheap shitty food for the masses but has thrived for centuries because of its availability. If it wasn't for you transplants, we would have kept forcing this stuff down our throats, so thank you for that. Now go choke on a corn dog.

    Not another fucking noodle shop.

This report has proven to be a re-hash of an old story. See the comments on this article:

Is this related to Famous Ray's pizza in any way?

  • S.K.

none of the Rays are related to each other

Oh snap the ramen wars are heating up!

I'm honestly really sick of hearing about Rays.

Like seriously, enough already. The rent is too fucking expensive. This guy cannot afford to pay it selling ice cream and french fries (which, let's be real people, ARE NOT THAT FUCKING GOOD)

All of this help and awesome support he is receiving is just prolonging the inevitable, I feel really bad for Ray and I know this is about more than avenue A losing a candy store but this is really just ridiculous now. Read that blog that chronicles all of this. Ray can't even afford to buy inventory anymore, his ice cream machines are broken.

I am not an East Village native but I understand how important this store is to the people in that neighborhood (I also understand how important people pretend it is to feel like a part of something, old new york, injustice, whatever) but times change and people change.

It will suck when Rays finnally closes and I hope that Ray can work everything out with his social security and maintaining an income but ENOUGH already.

Agree. The guy's an asshole too. Give me a break with this shit. You don't get to stay somewhere when you can never pay your rent.

    100% Agree.
