Knicks To Trade Nate, Darko and Close to Acquiring McGrady

21710nate.jpg The Knicks have agreed in principal to trade three-time slam dunk champion Nate Robinson to the Boston Celtics for backup guard Eddie House, who previously played for Coach Mike D'Antoni in Phoenix. Robinson was an at times electric and mostly well-liked player with the New York fans, but had been butting heads with Coach D'Antoni all season, resulting in a prolonged banishment on the Knicks bench for much of December.

The wheeling and dealing doesn't stop at Robinson either. The Knicks are close to sending Darko Milicic to the Timberwolves for Brian Cardinal. Cardinal would then be cut for the Robinson trade with the whole transaction saving the Knicks $1.8 million this season. The Knicks have also been been in talks with the Houston Rockets about acquiring former star guard Tracy McGrady leading up to tomorrow's trade deadline; the Post reports that the deal is being held up right now over draft picks, and will likely include shipping out some mixture of Jared Jeffries, Larry Hughes and Jordan Hill. In other words, if both deals are made, the Knicks will be getting rid of a lot of bulky contracts in anticipation of the Lebron-Sweepstakes this summer.

You guys are being too hard on the Knicks. From an outsider's perspective, you suddenly have a competent GM, one of the most fun coaches to play for and cap space all anticipating one of the best summers to acquire a spectacular free agent. Not only that, but most players love NY. Take Lebron - the most fun player in the league to play with - and say he comes to NYC. It would be like Garnett to the Celtics times a thousand. Players would be falling all over themselves to sign with the Knicks.

I have no problem with the Knicks management trying to fill seats *this season*, as long as it doesn't involve taking on another ridiculous contract that never seems to expire. And all this coming from a Bulls fan who used to despise the Knicks. That's how low Isiah took you that it was painful for even me to watch.

Oh and btw - T-Mac is headed to the Kings.

T-Mac to the Kings is still way unconfirmed. And the talk now is that any Kings/Rockets deal will involve a third party (ie the Knicks), which will still send T-Mac to NY.

Good riddance to anyone they trade away. I wish they would get rid of D'Antoni, his all offense, no defense, approach to basketball worked in Phoenix where they had players who could shoot and score. The Knicks have a collection of bricklayers who can't play a lick of defense, yet he encourages heaving three pointers at any time in the game. If Lebron James comes to the Knicks he would be making a huge mistake.

Knicks forget one thing - they're not the Yankees.

  • Kojak

They are like the Yankees in one respect: They're the most valuable team in the league, Money Wise. They can afford it.

The worst thing LeBron would do is to join the Knicks. The team is doomed.

  • babyhitler

lebron would never come to NY. Same old Knicks. Always trying to get washed up has beens with name recognition to fill the stands. It's a move to show people that they are trying but not really.

  • airtech1

Yeah, I think he'd be a fool to come, at least re: his b-ball legacy. If he wants to make huge $$ as a brand, that's a whole other story. But championships? Even he ain't that good.

  • airtech1

Get rid of everybody but Lee.

  • nivek

Why would you want to keep Duhon? I agree we should have someone that can pass to Lee, but the man can't shoot by himself.

  • 40oz.killa

As long as we keep David Lee, Duhon and Wilson Chandler its all good.
