Shamrock's Owner, Carriage Horses Evicted

php8edLssAM.jpg Happy Valentine's Day animal rights activists! The city has evicted the historic Shamrock Stables on West 46th Street. According to the NY Post, owner Ian McKeever was handed the eviction notice last week and ordered to appear in court this coming Wednesday. The city hopes to take possession of the building, which houses 26 carriage horses; they are planning a residential and commercial building, as well as a school expansion on that block. McKeever's lease wasn't renewed last November, and he was supposed to vacate in December; he says, "The city is leaving us out in the cold this Valentine's Day, and we hope they have a change of heart. Where is the love?" Currently he has nowhere else to set up shop.

have a great idea close off one of the meadows in the park and let the horses run free in a enclosure.that would be a nice site to see them just running around for the remaining part of their lives .i am sure all the animal lovers in his city would pitch in to take care of them including the Mayor .many of those horses are up in years .this is not a forever deal just to let these few horses live out there days not working and not confined the rest of the time in a stable.

"Currently he has nowhere else to set up shop."

Might I suggest he set up shop begging for change in Grand Central?

Sad to see horse trailers on 11th ave today. I've always loved hearing the clip-clop of the horses riding down the street.

You can help by objecting to A Ban. It's your right to have them there if you like!

  • youngpro

closing the horses' home means they now have no place to go. the spca wont take them, i cant take them, and so theyll just go wild in the streets, shitting and smelling everywhere.

  • Kaatskill05

It's actually 45th street and that school will be closed soon for the big hotel and high-rise project spanning the whole block. That's the real reason it's closing.

  • ms acras

The Central Park Conservancy doesn't have the authority to say no, unless this administration allows them to; and Central Park DOES have the acreage to do a project of this scope.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Nope, they don't have acres for all 5 stables. ASPCA, Parks Dept have met with the conservancy to discuss housing all the horses in Central Park. And they said NO. They stated they spend Hundreds of millions to restore the park and they don't want the horses because of the smell and the lack of acres. It is time to ban this industry instead of making these horses suffer needlessly

The Georgina Bloomberg Stables of Central Park would have a nice ring to it.

Central Park Conservatory SAID NO, they don't have the acres and they don't want them housed in the park. The horses are working in Times Square 1AM in the morning.

We need to write to the Judge because they assholes pretend to care about the horses and use the horses for sympathy when they don't give a shit about them.

The city didn't renew McKeever's lease in November, and gave him until mid-December to vacate. But the stable remained. NOTE: Due to special interest, DEPT OF ED has leased them this bldg for decades at BELOW MARKET VALUE. IT was a giveaway

A residential and commercial building and a school expansion are planned for the block.

NOTE: Due to Special Interests-Children's elementary school next door smell and there is manure and feed on the streets. UNHEALTHY for children to breathe everyday and even to touch. Children are in crowded classes because the stable next door.

McKeever -- whose stable has been in operation for 41 years -- said the city's not offering him any place to go.

NOTE: IT is not the city's business to find them another place. These carriage drivers have been subsidized TOO LONG by the taxpayers.

Your worried about the kids breathing the smell of the horses? Are you not more concerned with the ASBESTOS LEVEL IN THAT SCHOOL? It is 4x the legal danger limit.Oh but that is ok to breath daily in a CONFINED ROOM ! And your worried about dirt on the street from the Stable? New York is one of the Filthiest City's in our nation and that don't seem to bother you, Why? And it is NOT the Horses fault for overcroweded class room's in N.Y Schools! It is because there are way to many people and not enough room. Maybe instead of building more, There should be a limit of people allowed in the City!! Make it to where it is All commercial and No Residential.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Yes, those horses do need a ban. Mckeevor, one of the biggest asshole. Malone is the biggest asshole who likes to call women cunts. Yes, where is the love? No love for those horses who are double shifted and working in Time Square 1am. Shame on NYC. I just hope sanctuary takes the horses before he dumps them for slaughter. HELLO, where is this PASTURE/VACATION home for these horses. THERE IS NONE which is why he has no place for them.

  • Mr Mel

I heard McKeever isn't all bad, he has a black girl friend.

  • kplunkett

That's all fine and good until the asshole carriage drivers make the horses run even further to get to Central Park. Need a ban.
