No Snow This Weekend

Was Snowmageddon '10 a blizzard? Not really in NYC. There was a blizzard warning, and conditions were blizzardlike in some places for short periods of time, but the storm didn't meet the Weather Service definition for a blizzard: at least three hours of sustained winds or frequent gusts to 35 mph, considerable falling or blowing snow, and visibility less than a quarter-mile. While it may not have been a blizzard we suspect Snowmageddon '10 will rank high on the Northeast Snow Impact Scale once the data has been analyzed.

No snow, no storm, not much of any significant weather to talk about the next few days. An enormous high pressure system centered over the western Great Lakes will give us mostly calm, cool weather. Today's maximum temperature will be around 35 under sunny skies. A bit of obnubilation will keep tomorrow's high around freezing.

The high pressure system will keep the storm that's currently brewing along the Gulf Coast way to our south. The pressure gradient between that storm and the high will make for a breezy Valentine's Day with a mix of sun, clouds and romance. More sun is expected on Monday.
