Dear Mayor Bloomberg...

2010_01_bloomlet.jpg The Post reprinted some letters that Mayor Bloomberg has received—he gets over 8,000 a month, plus some gifts (which are stored at a warehouse). A few praise the Mayor or give him support for his initiatives—like his crackdown on illegal guns—while others slam his policies (people love their salt!) or simply submit wishes—an NYU junior wants more...bike lanes. Here are two examples:

SKATEBOARD DUDE
Could Brooklyn have skateboard parks? I like to skateboard with my cousin . . . I like to stop and kick the board up in the air and catch it in my hands and would like a skateboard park to ride in and do tricks. It's good exercise and burns lots of calories. Without a skateboard park, people will have to jump over a fire hydrant for a stunt. They would say, "This is boring, dude." I hope there is a skateboard park here one day.

PRISONER OF SECOND AVENUE
I am a retiree who CHOSE to remain in New York City for my retirement. I could have gone elsewhere, especially for the more affordable standard of living. But New York has the best to see and HAD the best transportation to get me there. Now I'm in a bind. I will be a prisoner of Second Avenue (literally) for I live right at the subway construction and my buses have been eliminated there.

A spokeswoman tells the Post, "Everyone who writes to the mayor gets a response. Every letter is read and the proper course of action is determined, whether it’s a simple thank-you note, a response from the Mayor’s Office or a referral to the appropriate agency.” We're guessing Bloomberg prefers letters to protesters outside his Upper East Side townhouse, but we're still awaiting a response to a 2003 e-mail we sent him, asking if he had a nickname other than Mike.

    Dear Mayor,

Please do something to prevent the banking system from making us all prisoners via usury charges.

We don't mind paying service fees, but paying 200+% over the course of a loan is a bit extreme considering many of these loans are in turn backed by government sponsored corporations.

So we've been saving the big banks' ass for years.

    It's true.

It's forwarded to the correct department and they usually respond within a week, and follow up with you as well.

Then again, I sent him a letter during the election season.

But I have to say, they were on top of things.

I and many others sent Bloomberg letters and postcards on the cruelty of horse drawn carriages and ringling brother circus in coney island. no response except one person told me she received a generic letter from the dept of health that acknowledge receipt of letter directed to Bloomberg.

If anyone doubts me then please send him a letter (not praising him).
