New Area Code Coming to a Borough Near You!

Rappers in the outer boroughs will soon have a new area code to rhyme stuff with. According to a press release, “929” will join “718” and the much-maligned “347” in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. That’s because all the existing phone numbers will be tapped out by 2012, reports Neustar. Wow, those went quick.

Something's screwy about this. My prepaid Tracfone has a 718 number, and my landline through Time Warner cable is 347.

No rhyme or reason.

I think Staten Island should get an independent area code. Open up 718 for the rest of us and give Staten Island something unique and special.

according to the census and almanacs, the northeast population (NY/NJ) is migrating to the west and south such that the overall population here has been decreasing, yet we keep running out of phone numbers? is this part of the same gnome conspiracy that causes half of all socks and underwear to disappear in the laundry?
