Dom Carter Released From Jail Early

Former NY1 political anchor Dominic Carter was released from jail 11 days early on good behavior. New York Magazine reports that the newsman was let out this week after serving 19 days of his 30-day sentence for attempted assault against his wife. Following a judge's orders, Carter—who hopes to appeal the verdict—must now attend domestic violence classes, receive "psychiatric treatment," and stay away from his wife for two years, a stipulation his attorney called "draconian." Because he isn't allowed home, Carter is reportedly staying with relatives in the city. "This is all behind me now," he said. "I'm writing a new chapter in my life."

I think he should get his job back, he was a great reporter and pressed the politicians sternly on key issues when they appeared on his show. It sucks that the public is not going to let that happen.... we could use some one like him to keep our elected officials in check.

The headline is quite misleading. In NY, individuals serve 2/3 of their prison sentence on misdemeanor convictions. So, on a 30 day sentence, one does 20 days. Also, correctional facilities do not release prisoners on weekends so if one's time is up on a Saturday or Sunday, that person is released on the preceding Friday. Therefore, this guy received his 'good time' credit and was released on the same date as any other criminal with the same sentence.

Damn, mike, you should have represented him in court.

Yes, a new chapter in his life. Like one in which he no longer has a career.
