Last Night's Action: Rangers Wake Up Too Late

2008_12_rangerslogo.jpg

  • Coyotes 3, Rangers 2: A rotten first period and the Rangers down by three goals. A silent second period seemed to spell their doom. But Marian Gaborik and Sean Avery scored two minutes, eight seconds apart in the third period to give the Rangers life. Alas, the third goal was never found. The Rangers have now lost five straight games, and the eight goals from their last win are three more than they've had during their losing streak.

  • Flyers 2, Islanders 1: The Flyers have now won 14 straight games against the Islanders. "They’ve obviously had a good run on us,” Islanders coach Scott Gordon said. No kidding. This was the 14th straight Flyers win in the series. That ties a record held by man, including the Flyers against the Thrashers. Josh Bailey had the lone Islanders goal, and Dwayne Roloson made 20 saves in the loss.

  • Wizards 106, Knicks 96: When David Lee doesn't have a double-double, it qualifies as a minor upset. One day after squeaking by the Nets, the Wizards took care of the New York-area sweep with this 10-point win. Four of the Knicks starters had double figures, including David Lee's 24 (and nine rebounds), but it didn't mean enough. The Knicks made just six of 21 3-point attempts and 14 of 22 free-throw attempts.

I agree-he has flown under the radar for waaay too long. The team has been shitty for years. His evaluation of talent and questionable signings makes him a prime candidate for the boot.

Truly pitiful. And to the Coyotes, no less. I now root for individual players to do well, because there is NO "team" to get excited about. Good for Gabby and Aves.

Rip Torn should change his name to Trip Torn or Ripped Torn.
