Cold Days Returning Soon

Sad weather news comes to light this morning: The US no longer holds the distinction of having the windiest place on earth. Mt. Washington's 231 mph gust in 1934 was bested by a 253 mph breeze on Barrow Island, Australia. That's not the saddest part of the story. The saddest part is that it took 14 years for anyone to care! The tremendous gust was caused by Cyclone Olivia in 1996 but the record didn't grab any attention until a recent review. Ah well, at least we still have the record for longest transport of tornado debris (223 miles!).

No records today in these parts. High pressure will bring a slight breeze, sunny skies and a high in the low 40s.

Tomorrow is a different story! In addition to gusty winds, there's a chance of afternoon rain showers changing over to snow showers as the atmosphere gets all excited ahead of an Arctic front. The high will again be in the low 40s. The mercury, however, is going to plummet after the front passes tomorrow evening. Friday's low will be in the teens and the high will only be in the upper 20s. The cold continues on Saturday but with an outside chance of snow. Things will begin to warm on Sunday.
