i got excited when i saw the blog link for the girl trying to eat her way through nyc, because i thought you were talking about the navigeaters (http://www.navigeaters.com/). but sadly you weren't. i dig the blog concept but think the navigeaters have the layout, photos, and content more finely tuned than this amalgam of blurry cell phone pictures. just sayin.

Funny, I thought they were talking about The Confined Nomad. I guess it's a popular concept, though Confined Nomad is doing it in alphabetical order.

Really not that good a comparison between the Newsday and Times situations. Everyone with a cable TV subscription on Long Island gets access to the Newsday site, as do print version subscribers -- and the paper has very high subscriber reach on the Island, certainly much higher as a percentage of households than the NY Times has even in just the Metro area. And of course there's more interest in reading the Times from people outside the NYC area than there is in Newsday.

Then there's the major differences in the way the "pay wall" is being implemented. The Times, by allowing some number of "free" visits before requiring payment, actually could see no loss at all in "unique visitors," even if total pageviews decrease.

BTW, I discovered a way to effectively get around the Newsday wall for a lot of the content. If a lot of other people have, too, that could be part of their problem.
