Burger King to Sell Beer in Times Square

012210burgerkingbeer.jpg Perhaps to help customers numb the pain and humiliation of dining in a Times Square Burger King, the fast food chain has announced that beer will (probably) be sold at the crossroads of the world. His Royal Highness is rolling out the precious mead starting next month in Miami Beach, at a "concept" called a Whopper Bar. To start with, suds on the menu will be limited to Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors beer products. "You can have America's favorite beers with America's favorite burger," promises Burger King's North American president Chuck Fallon, with a straight face.

A Whopper combo with a beer will run $7.99, which is about $2 more than the same meal with a soda. It's unclear when Times Square diners can start doing keg stands with the King, but not everyone's thrilled. Arnold Lyons, 58, of the Bronx, tells the Daily News, "There's already enough trouble without Burger King selling beer. You don't take your kids to a bar." Not unless you're in Park Slope! Really, this is all very intriguing, but we're saving our excitement for the day McDonald's brings Shamrock shakes back to NYC. (A drop of Bushmills wouldn't hurt with that, either.)

The Burger King that used to be on Governors Island used to sell beer. It was pretty cheap too...maybe 25 cents for a big cup if I remember correctly, but it may have been run by PX or something. Still, was nice to have a beer or 10 with a double cheeseburger.

    Yea!

I can't believe how unenthusiastic people are about cheap beer! Now if this place has wifi I've got myself a new homework hang.

    thanks king!

Note to movie theater marketers: I would go to more movies if they served beer in theaters. (I know some artsy theaters do).

We won't stop until every tourist has been charbroiled and then cold-filtered.

haven't they been doing this in europe for years .. ? why are these things a big deal ..

    oh right, puritan-founded nation

  • just saying

Er, won't Burger King need a NY liquor license to sell beer in Times Sq.? So how is BK going to make sure all the imbibers are of legal drinking age? Those long lines are going to get a lot longer if customers are also required to show ID.

The beer will probably be extra watered down anyway.

They will need to hire a full time cleaning crew to stay on top of the bathroom situation now. Hose them down twice an hour.

  • zincink

I can't imagine the bathroom after this takes place..Good idea though

This brings us Americans one step closer to the dream that is all over European Countries already

Nathan's at Coney Island (and all the other food stands down there) sell beer, so it's not like a fast food joint selling beer in NYC is completely unprecedented. Also IIRC when I stopped at a BK in Florida way back when they were selling beer, no big deal.

  • JacqueMehoff

I'd rather have that beer instead of a supersize.

is this the BK on 47th ish and 7th that's been in TS for a long long time.
