Video: Cops Suspended After Beating Handcuffed Perp

012110bronx.jpg A rookie Bronx cop and a second officer have been suspended and may face criminal charges after video surfaced showing them assaulting a handcuffed man on January 5th. The beating took place after two cops were wounded by a ricocheting bullet fired by a third officer chasing a drug suspect, whose pit bull had pounced at them. An area resident took the video (below) from a nearby apartment, but maybe it's nothing to get worked up about, because one NYPD source says, "It wasn't as bad as Rodney King."

It's also being reported that two NYPD sergeants looked on and did nothing as rookie Officer John Cicero attacked the unidentified perp, who had just told Cicero "that it should have been him who should have been shot and killed." After that zinger, "he's punching and kicking him when he's on the ground handcuffed," says the Post's source. A second officer, William Green, is also seen on the video allegedly throwing a punch at the handcuffed man. Green was suspended yesterday, but only after the NYPD erroneously suspended a different officer who wasn't even at the scene.

Instead of putting it on YouTube or sending it to tips(at)gothamist(dot)com, the person who shot the video brought it to the Bronx DA's Office, which opened a criminal investigation. The two sergeants who failed to stop the beating have been placed on modified desk duty, and Internal Affairs is conducting a probe. In lieu of this video, here's another one of a cop accidentally spraying himself in the face with pepper spray, then beating a handcuffed woman who was caught riding her bike on the sidewalk:

ny cops are animals. this suspect appears to be cooperating and this juicehead, egotrip cop is clearly looking around before he takes more shots.

i sincerely believe that some cops become cops so they can take out their aggressions on people. psychiatric eval for this monster...put this PIG away.

I wonder what's bloomberg thinking? I bet they thought they got it made in the shade with their NYPD spin.

then this videotape comes out showing what really happened.

oh, what did lynch say about these cops? innocent till proven guilty? don't judge us because we don't judge you? sarcasm.

"It wasn't as bad as Rodney King."

Cool, so we can nuke Iran and then say, "It wasn't as bad as Hiroshima/Nagasaki."

  • Snoopy

Actually if it goes right it will be badder than Hiroshima/Nagasaki. Throw in Afghanistan and all the other stans with the flyover hits.

  • Sinchy

These cases caught on camera are going to become very common as video devices become cheaper, smaller, and of better quality.

We will see a rise in police abuse cases until EVERY police/public interaction is on tape, then we will have a decrease in police abuse

Where's Al Shapton? Was he hiding in the bushes and scrried away when he realized it was not a white cop beating the guy senseless?

  • Kelles

Clearly, the police officer in question was just celebrating the return of "24"

  • Snoopy

Cops for the most part are retards and have very little sense of what they are doing. I know quite a few active and retired officers of varying rank and out of all of them there is only one guy that has a focus on the reality of the job.

    Move along-nothing to see here...

  • Holsum Pan

    Fuck the police!

lets analyze the stupidity of the statement.

"I wrote that resisting arrest SHOULDN'T be permissible unless they are found guilty of another charge as well."

that means that you could be arrested, then rearrested, reintroduced to the system for the same incident, get a second bail hearing, sit in bookings for another 3 days, wait to see a judge because now you have a guilty plea or conviction to another charge, you saying there should now be two trials. two pleas? you might be hispanic but you just proved yourself to be a stupid hispanic.

theres a little box on the upper left, type in CATS and hit 'go' and find another important socialy relevant story to comment on.

Don't listen to Felix. He has the same weird disease that Bill O'Reilly has where he can't seem to understand logic and tries to 'win' every argument by telling the person he disagrees with to shut up.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Actually, you're more like Bill O'Reilly. Sometime I wonder if you two share the same brain.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

YOu're such an idiot, seriously. Please shut up because you have NO EDUCATION AT ALL. The person who is "resisting arrest" is already arrested. If the person is found not guilty of all the other "bogus charges" then resisting arrest charge should be dropped. What the hell are you talking about IDIOT> AGAIN YOUR SKIN COLOR DOESN'T MAKE you an expert but KNOWLEDGE AND COMPASSION. Damn, you sound so hateful and so miserable. STFU now because you are toxic.

  • NannyState

I've seen worse. Shoot at a cop and what would you expect? A lollipop?

  • John Del Signore

It was a cop who discharged a firearm. And I'm pretty sure the suspect being assaulted is not the one they were chasing to begin with; they rounded up several perps after the shooting.

  • NannyState

I guess my reading comprehension skills are still under the pillow :/

  • John Del Signore

Thanks, I guess they just uploaded it. Wasn't there earlier.

  • hotstepper

the cop was projecting his anger after spraying himself in the face with pepper spray. nothing gets the frustration gnomes off your back like throwing someone a nice ass-whoopin. fool.
