New Yorkers Love Eating Brains, Might Be Zombies

12010monkeybrain.jpg With items like pigs feet and brains showing up on the menu at an increasing number of high-end eateries, offal has turned from butchers block reject to a trendy delicacy. The New York Observer writes that in this world of celebrity chefs, well crafted "offal is the perfect medium for showing off." The dishes are appealing to young and old alike, as most new foodies will dare themselves to try anything, and most older patrons remember when sweetbreads were homecooked dinners. So is this trend part of the ongoing de-vegetarianizing of New York? Or are our brain-favoring palates just further evidence of the coming zombie apocalypse? Until someone sends some fresh brains over to our office, we're withholding judgment!

Wow Gothamist....stealing directly from an article posted on Gawker earlier today. I know it links to the Observer article in both posts, but you even stole the Kate Capshaw video/pic thing.

    Total bullshit. Gothamist, you SUCK.

Gothamist should call themselves Paraphrasist (or just plain old Plagiarist.) Jake Dobkin leads the charge. According to his fantasy of the near future, no one will write any original material, they will all just copy off each other, in an infinite echo chamber of idiocy. And this will be a good thing.

Or are our brain-favoring palates just further evidence of the coming zombie apocalypse?

You say that like it's a bad thing.

  • Wza

People walk around like zombies anyway, it was only a matter of time.

  • jibbly

    Temple of Doooooom!

  • EastRiver

Kate Capshaw made an already bad movie completely unwatchable.

Temple of Doom is a great movie. You need to check your facts.

  • savedbyzero

East River is right; Temple of Doom is the suckiest of the Indiana Jones movies.

    per IMDB:

The "chilled monkey-brains" were made from custard and raspberry sauce.

As an Indian, my reasoning behind the "dinner scene" is that it was a prank on any hapless white foreigners who come by. (The "maharajas" placed bets on which guest would faint first.)

    - The baby snakes...gummy worms.

    - The fried beetles...clams on the half-shell with plastic beetle parts glue-gunned on.

    - Eyeball soup...tomato soup with marbles thrown in.

    - Chilled monkey brains...strawberry compote served in plastic monkey heads.

    Marbles wouldn't float.

I've tasted brain before. Not a good flavor, and the texture wasn't great, either. Although maybe it'd be better with some fava beans and a nice chianti...

  • NannyState

People will eat anything scrambled with eggs, even each other.

it's only a matter of time until our hands start shaking.
