Desk Jockey Cops Upset Over Mandatory Street Beat
Over the summer, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly pulled the plug on a program that required "house cat" cops, who normally spend their days doing paperwork, to also conduct street patrols on a regular basis. Supposedly, Kelly axed the plan after two weeks because Chief of Patrol Robert Gianell tried to implement it without consulting him, and because some thought it "was just window dressing." But now the desk jockeys are riding again!
"We think it's nonsense," one NYPD supervisor tells the Post. "The reason these people have jobs inside is that their work needs to be done." Operation "All-Out" was apparently revived in November and was supposed to be temporary, ending January 4th. But between 480 and 560 desk jockeys are still being forced to waddle a beat, one day a week, while still maintaining the same workload in the office. And with all that paperwork piling up, how are they supposed to find time for porn, naps, and racist graffiti?
