  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: jumper up in the Bronx, home invasion robbery on Avenue T in Brooklyn, and an all hands fire in Murray Hill.
  • More stories of poor, sad young lawyers: "We used to gather in someone’s office, close the door, and say, ‘I hate my life, why are we doing this?'"
  • The Obama mural in Bushwick got bombed up with some really ugly graffiti.
  • Remember that huge fire in the Bronx last month? Turns out it was set by the owner of a diner to collect some insurance money, according to prosecutors.
  • The city will now allow Staten Islanders to wait inside the ferry terminal before the late night departures: recently they've been forced outside to discourage homeless people sleeping on the benches.

Another toy visitng NYC to do the whole graff tourist thing of catching ups in NYC. While it's a shame to the public of a nice piece getting ruined, especially since certain forms of graffiti has now been embraced by the mainstream, this move is a reflection of the rawness of what graffiti really was before it went pop....

I had a friend fresh out of law school who wound up defending lawsuits for a shopping mall in NJ. One time a friend of hers came to town complaining she had no money and wouldn't be much fun. So Miss Lawyer tells her where tha cameras are at that mall and how to fall just right. They split the $30k settlement she worked out in her office.
