Celebs Lose Lawsuit Against SoHo Trash Tower

phpomQJUWPM.jpg The troupe of A-listers fighting against dirty, smelly trash coming to their pristine neighborhood have hit a bump in their road to a reek-free corner of Manhattan. The group — which includes celebs like Jennifer Connelly, Kirsten Dunst, Michael Stipe, James Gandolfini, Lou Reed and John Slattery — has been fighting against a new sanitation garage in SoHo. They filed a lawsuit against the city's plan, and the NY Post reports that this week the judge has tossed it out with the trash, allowing the city to start work on the $400 million garbage garage. The residents are still deciding if they'll file an appeal, and are still hoping for a better alternative.

For a second, I thought they were talking about Trump Soho.

  • Snoopy

Although the building will never win any architectural awards, I have no problem with that building, although there are quite a few that live on the other side of Six that do.

  • Clarice City

So,the Hollywood entertainers want us to put the trash back in the poor neighborhoods? Jesus H...go back to LA.

  • Snoopy

It's not that they don't want any garbage facility in their area, they already have a district 1 "garage" at that location. They were even willing to take an additional district in a revised plan they submitted. It's the forcing of three districts to park their trucks as well as their private cars on that one site.

    It's called fair share.

Hopefully this can get tied up in litigation to the point where Mayor Bloomfuck and his fat ugly dike buddy Quinn (I am not homophobic, I'm just stating the facts since I see no children in her future) will be out of office and saner minds will prevail.

  • Holsum Pan

No, they just don't want it on their block. Do you want it on yours?

  • Holsum Pan

Of course. Who want's a truck garage in their neighborhood? Especially Sanitation! Streets stinky and slippery with that 'garbage truck juice' that drips.

The trucks have to go somewhere, but I don't blame the local residents for trying to keep them out. It doesn't serve any benefit to the neighborhood.

400 million? What a joke, it will cost at least 700 million. I saw the proposed plans in one of the CB meeting and it will cost much more. Also note that I am not siding with these rich Sohos but CB4-Hell Kitichen is in the pockets of Quinn. This is why this 2 district garbage (including CB4) will be burden unto one district- district 3. CB4 Board members have benefitted financially with their relationship with Quinn. Where is the FEDS?

Rather than keep the garage on the Gansevoort pier, I wonder where the almost billion dollars are going to come from to build this garage?

Again I state that the Hudson River Park fools think they can just keep adding piers to their park while Pier 40, one of their biggest cash cows, is crumbling away.

Keep the existing sanitation garage where it is and charge the city rent you bunch of dumb fools.

And before someone here says, "Yes but the law states that..." I say that's bullshit. Look who's sitting in City Hall after two terms?

Good. People need to realize that big cities are dirty dangerous places. If you want pristine lawns and quiet streets, move the the burbs. I am sick of rich yuppies and NYU students coming here and complaining about the smell, or the noise. If you don't like it here go back to Wisconsin.

  • mullagatawny

Why do you care where people are from?

  • Snoopy

The average patron at the Ear Inn, located just a few feet east of this monstrosity are not rich or famous, but still are talented normal tax paying citizens that have lived with the Holland Tunnel congestion, compounded by the UPS and FedEx terminals in their community for many years. Why might I ask did the city rezone an area south of Spring Street in Hudson Square residential and then turn around and plop this thing in their midst just a few years later?

Why not convert the Saint John's building just north of this location to a garbage garage? It's floors could hold freight trains so I am sure they can bear the weight of garbage trucks. Why? Because Bloomberg has some of his offices located there, that's why.

I live in the neighborhood and hope Trump's Hotel goes over to full time residential, so I am not your classic nimby.

    100%

  • kafkask

While I agree with your statement, you realize they are talking about rich assholes, right? They are way past yuppiedom and certainly a little old to be attending NYU...

Your outrage seems to be misplaced. . .

  • books

most of the rich peoples feces and garbage goes to the outer boros. its not fair.
