Bad Service At Brooklyn Post Offices Here To Stay!

bkpo0110.jpg After 40 were on the chopping block, word now is there will be no Brooklyn post offices closing anytime soon — which can only help the insufferable longs lines and customer service provided at various branches... right?

The USPS lost $3.8 billion in the 2009 fiscal year, and they were looking to consolidate branches country-wide. According to the NY Post, they balanced their budget (novel idea) which saved the borough's branches... for now. However, just because they remain open, doesn't mean you'll be seeing improved service. In fact, part of the cost-cutting measures that did go through include reducing staff and adjusting hours.

As for city closures, only two post offices in the area may be shut down in the near future, and both are in Queens.

I really have to laugh at this story, but then again when one is a Pundit and works for entertainment rather then being a reporter and trying to find the NEWS (oops! sorry the entertainment), here is the REAL low down folks we just had a rate in snail mail stamps in May or June there will be another call for a rate increase.

WHY? It is called Privatizing the postal Service, it has NOTHING to do with Service, it has to do with making you as a Customer as unhappy as possible so you seek alternatives.

Proof notice unless you really pay attention it is the USPS then right next door is UPS (duh!)also notice how the delivery is always so much better at UPS why they share info at least one way all going tout nothing coming in.

having lived overseas for years it is amazing how even third world countries function so much better when they DO NOT have share with the Mail for Profit and we will destroy the opposition verses we provide service and really only care about the bottom line.

Remember those is about the UNION which UPS does NOT have, and this is about PROFIT which UPS has. This is about Management which has no limits on improvements verses a management that MUST stay inside the proposed budget.

No you are not getting new facilities because UPS is in the back wing quietly sabotaging the negotiations. All a building has to due is meet certain criteria and they get the contract, so check and see how close a UPS facility is to the Government USPS, that is your answer.

As Danny42 said, UPS is unionized... by the Teamsters.

You may be thinking of FedEx, which isn't unionized so far. For some reason, FedEx is regulated under the Railway Labor Act as if it's a railroad or airline, while UPS is under the National Labor Relations Act like a normal trucking company. So union organization has been more difficult at FedEx.

The House passed a bill last year that would make it easier to unionize FedEx, but it didn't go any farther than that. A version of it probably will come up again.

    UPS has a union.

The average wait times at the 3 Brooklyn post offices I've been to are definitely absurd when compared to the couple I've been to in Manhattan or the several I've used regularly in other cities I've lived in.

Oftentimes, there is only one window open for service and there are 20 people in line. I only go there when I have to pick something up... You can mail stuff at the postal annex places.

Until Brooklyn and Queens post offices receive the same service as their counterparts in Manhattan (even if it is deplorable), I will claim racism and classcism. How could separate and unequal be any clearer? (Okay, okay, the public schools).
