Newark Airport Kisser Wants Help from China

01132010jiang.jpg

The “romantic” New Jersey grad student who caused massive delays at Newark airport when he ducked through security to kiss his girlfriend will receive legal help from the Chinese consulate. “Consular official Wang Bangfu said the consulate has been following the case of 28-year-old Haisong Jiang closely since he was arrested and charged with trespassing January 3rd ,” reported the AP. The Chinese citizen's act of love caused delays to over a hundred flights and stranded thousands of passengers in the airport for hours. He faces up to thirty days in prison and will be arraigned on January 28 in Newark.

this guy's a f'ing idiot and so are TSA and all other dumbass, slow, inefficient, ex-convict blue-collar employees at JFK and Newark

  • S.K.

Seriously, he's a budding scientist, but can't follow a simple airport instruction like not crossing the rope?

Initially I was worried the airport stunt was yet another William Hung attempt to win a 16th minute of fame.

That's what I tried to get across days ago, but people around here were all, "It's not his fault. Leave him alone." Biotech labs have all sorts of security and safety precautions and if I ran such a company, I sure as hell wouldn't hire a guy who demonstrated he can't be trusted to follow even the simplest rule.

  • gothamguy

So, this guy's life is ruined over a stupid mistake? I mean, even NJ law calls this a petty offense. Was he wrong to do it, sure. It this being blown out of proportion because the response needs to be rationalized, probably.

If not for the fact that the TSA's insane policies caused this to become a national emergency, he would have gotten a ticket and sent on his way. Instead, they spent time and money doing an investigation to find this guy and publicly arrest him so that they look competent.

If this happened in a bus station, you never would have heard about it.

  • Thespis

I'd hardly say that "up to" 30 days will ruin his life. Odds are that he'll do no more than a week, if he does any actual time at all -- but even the full month is just a month. It's a petty crime, and it comes with a petty crime's punishment.

It got on the news because "OMFG THE TERRORISTS!!!!," but in terms of the judicial system it sounds like they're actually going to get this one pretty much right.

  • ilovejapgirls

so, any news on Ruben Hernandez?

  • Spirit of 76

Remind me again why the girl likes this guy. What a wuss. Take your lumps like a man. He refused to come forward and now he's whining to his own government. Just stand up and say you did it, you're sorry and you throw yourself on the mercy of the court. And if he's already turning the Chinese government for help, that would seem to be an indication of where his heart truly lies. I wouldn't bet good money that he'd stay with his girlfriend in LA past the first major lover's spat.

  • eflash

If he did this in China he'd already be dead.

  • just saying

Really. China recently executed a mentally ill British man on highly questionable charges of drug smuggling.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8433285.stm

  • just saying

And that mentally ill Britian was executed despite repeated requests from his family and the British government for clemency.

hah! my post got censored. way to go.

  • rides on farts

i mean if the assholes would just let the dude screen through security and go to the gate we wouldnt have these problems

    so much silliness

  • ProcedureTurn

too expensive and delays are long forthe travelers themselves. imagine having to screen freidns and family? - Im sure the aiport storeswouldnt mind as it helps increase buisness. But non-pax is a thing ofthe past. I use to do it all the time yrs ago.

  • Outter Burrougher

no one disputes that the TSA fucked up, but can we please stop pretending that this guy is a victim?

he knew he was entering an unauthorized area and yet went anyway. that's trespassing whether the TSA was asleep at the wheel or not.

  • nivek

    ^ idiots above ^

You're at a fucking airport, the least you could is stop acting like a douche.

  • Thespis

I agree. My only concern here was that they were going to take this bozo and treat him like "OMFG A TERRORIST!!!!" I was thinking "Christ, this poor schmuck's gonna get twenty years maximum security in Gitmo with Harold and Kumar."

But 30 days? Yeah, that sounds about right. He certainly broke the law -- and he certainly did it intentionally. And while no one was physically harmed, it did cost a ton of money and inconvenience a lot of people. That's why it's illegal. I'd say community service would be better than jailtime -- it's probably enough to keep the next joker from trying this. But 30 days would be close enough.

  • rides on farts

    big fucking deal.

  • rides on farts

i mean i would imagine the only reason this was reported was to say HEY TSA RETARDS GET IT TOGETHER

and of course instead of disciplining the guy off his post the arrest some silly man and shut down the airport.

    classy.

  • kazubes

    haha Wang Bangfu

  • NannyState

LOL he could have used some Wang Bangfu at the airport!
