Kosher Food: It's What's For Dinner Everywhere!

A classic kosher luncheonette may have closed last month, but in grocery stores, kosher is all the rage. According to a Cornell University research project, 40 percent of the food sold at grocery stores is kosher. “It’s keyed into the issues of food safety and consumer fear,” said Larry Finkel of Packaged Facts, a consumer market research company. “The reputation of kosher is stretching beyond chicken, whether there is truth to it or not.” According to a NY Times piece, people think kosher products are healthier, fresher and taste better. There’s also the perception that kosher butchering is less cruel. Fact or fiction, kosher food has found its market. And according to the study, the majority—about 85 percent—of those who shop kosher don’t do it because their religion compels them.

A Palestinian diplomat walks into a NY grocery store, sees 40 percent of the goods are kosher, demands an end to the Zionist occupation of the food aisles!

  • newport27

so now these motherf'ers want to claim market share in grocery products releasing some bogus bullsh!t "research project"? Not even a thesis, a "research project"? get the F out of here

  • potsmoker

so if im a dumbass, then the guy who believe that kosher slaughter is less cruel must be a bigger dumbass.

again, must be a PR stunt since the PETA / Agriprocessors news turned up on the front page of the nytimes recently.

  • CR

Good point about Agriprocessors. However, there are many other sources of kosher meat in America aside from Agriprocessors, just like there are many sources of non-kosher meat aside from Hormel (thank the lord).

  • JenChungsBaby

Until you figure out how to use the reply button you will always be a dumbass.

  • JenChungsBaby

Saying that 40 percent of food sold at grocery stores is kosher doesn't mean much because a lot of things are just naturally kosher, with no special preparation or blessing or whatever required. Carrots are kosher unless you rub pigfat on them. Even Coke is kosher.

  • CR

Just a note: coke is not *naturally* kosher, whereas carrots are.

  • JenChungsBaby

You mean Coke doesn't grow on trees?

  • Steven

Kosher is also usually double the price. What is wrong with organic meats?

  • Professor_X

    It's treif.

  • potsmoker

wheres the nutjobs crying zionist propaganda...

this is a PR stunt in my opinion.

    all butchering is cruel,

all butchering is still subject to federal standards to minimize cruelty.

id rather eat HALAL than Kosher when i go meaty...

  • triggerzer0

it's the same thing. Just blessed differently dumbass.

  • Tien

I'll go kosher when they can figure out some sort of kosher pig bacon. So I guess I'm trying to say I'll never go kosher.
