New Jersey Assembly Approves Medical Marijuana

New Jersey may become the 14th state to legalize medical marijuana. The NY Post says that a bill slated for votes in the Senate and Assembly would allow patients with cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis and other chronic illnesses to buy up to two ounces of marijuana a month. But the state will stay the only dealer since all pot will be gotten from official dispensaries. Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, a co-sponsor of the bill, says New Jersey’s Compassionate Use Marijuana Act would be the nation’s strictest. Home growing and driving while high (apparently in California that's allowed!) would still be illegal, so for now there's no hope of Northfield becoming the next Mendocino.
Update: The New Jersey Assembly approved the measure to legalize medical marijuana. It's on to the State Senate now, and if it goes through Gov. Jon Corzine will sign it into law before leaving office next Tuesday, says the NY Times.

Hello New Jersey! jrb from Los Angeles. You folks are going to LOVE this new right. In California we fought long and hard to get our own Prop 215 on the ballot, get it passed, and ended up having fight the DEA for something that we voted for and passed at the ballot box.

Now thirteen years later, with a friendlier, more open minded Federal Govt, we have had something like 500 med mj dispensaries all over SoCal which have opened in the last few months. Now the NIMBYs are starting a fuss about the dispensaries. Too many cannabis clubs, too close to schools, churches, etc. so be warned that this is right around the corner.

The massive amount of competition between clubs allows us to buy good organically grown marijuana for about $30 to $70 an eighth ounce depending on potency. Larger buys get volume discounts. Doctors willing to write letters of recommendation have also become competitive. The going rate is now $70 to $100 but must be renewed once a year.

Congratulations on your new right to have and consume med mj.

Here in California we hope to get a measure on the ballot that will legalize and tax recreational use as well. With all the state budget short falls we are all very encouraged that the measure has a very good possibility of passing.

    Peace NJ, and welcome!

Hopefully Jersey will be loved for the first time since never. I also hope that real estate won't be on the rise since I'm thinking about moving my entire clan there after this wonderful breaking news.

how chronic is chronic (no pun intended)? Do you have to have a debilitating disease, or can you use it to cure headaches?
