Video, Map Emphasize America's Same-Sex Marriage Fear

The New Jersey State Senate's defeat of a bill that would have granted same-sex couples the right to marry calls to mind these two interesting NY Times maps. As you can see, inbreeding's a-okay in many states, including New York. So feel free to marry your cousin and have as many slack-jawed yokel kids as you want, but you'll have to go to Massachusetts to marry someone of the same gender, freak. (The map has Jersey highlighted, we believe, because civil unions are permitted in the Garden State.) Also fun is this video, below, of reactions to yesterday's vote. Feel free to skip ahead to the 2:30 mark if you want to feel revolted by one woman's exultant thanksgiving to God. [Hat tip Daily Dish, Joe.My.God]

Christians are all about 'keepin' it in the family'. And judging from the headlines, half the pastors rail against gay marriage out of fear that their secret lover might demand a ring.

  • Like Marmot, I think stigmatizing another baseless sexual taboo is not the solution. Cousins ain't nothing, as far as statistics show.

I'd like to burn this woman's church down. See how she likes it.

Actually marriage between first cousins with no known shared hereditary diseases i.e. Huntingtons, is only something like 2% more likely to cause birth defects. Just like gay marriage, there's no reason it shouldn't be legal. Aside from how we keep listening to fear and superstition and religious idiocy over reason and logic.

what an interesting reaction to have to a decision that affects her life not one bit - yay or nay, her life will continue no different as before. but for all those families there, they were literally told they are not worthy of full rights. and she cheers in front of them, as they cry. classy.

for those that are against gay marriage - understand that these rulings are a hint of an undercurrent of vast social changes that will eventually affect you. of course, by then it will be too late for you to do much, as your rights have already been slowly stripped away. indifference is just as dangerous as action.

sidenote: Portugal, a Roman Catholic country, now permits gay marriage. they seemingly understand Luke 6v31 much more than our politicians do.

Can I get a map that shows state that allow same-sex marriage between first cousins?

    Just curious is all.

Those maps are inspired. Hard to imagine a better illustration of this country's juvenile and hypocritical attitude toward gay marriage.
