News Flash: It's F***ing Cold!

010510snowmiser.jpg More ammo for American climate change illiterates: weather experts say this may be the coldest NYC winter in almost 30 years. "It'll be like the great winters of the '60s and '70s," meteorologist Joe Bastardi told the Daily News. Great. Exactly.

Bastardi says the next month could rival the blizzards of 1978, when the National Guard had to be called in to clean up the 31 inches of snow piled up in the city. We've already collected 12.6 inches this season, and temperatures have dipped as low at 16 degrees (according to our weather page, it's currently 29 with the wind chill making it feel like 19. Brrrr.)

However, cold temperatures could mean more than just a rise in hot chocolate sales for the city. Firefighters battling a house fire Monday in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn, had a hard time when they found the hydrants frozen and had to string hoses together to reach hydrants farther away. Thankfully, Sen. Espada was in the Bronx at the time.

I'll try again. Man-made global warming or man-made climate change (or flat earth) is a hoax.

  • rfid4dna

Yeah sure climate change is bogus... and I'm sure if Sarah Palin were in charge, Jesus Christ would re-freeze the ice caps and turn terrorists into clean-burning coal.

  • slny

Sorry, man-made global warming or flat earth is a hoax.

I think hell is starting to freeze.

  • slny

Global warming or flat earth is a hoax.

  • mdow

world's still flat to some. data and observable fact (surely those ice melting patterns in the arctic are "manipulated" and the acidity of the ocean is "bogus" and the basic goddamn chemistry is a "sham") be damned...

You're the 'climate change' illiterates if you can't see through the global warming scam. Especially since the scientists pushing it have been caught red handed admitting they manipulated the data to get the results they wanted. It's just a bogus pretext for higher taxes and more government intervention into our daily lives.

Have another cup of the Al Gore Kool Aid. Better yet, join scientology, at least that way you only throw your own money down the crapper, not mine.

Giant oil and coal companies would pay enormous amounts of money to whoever uncovered this scam you speak of. Given how much money they would save I'm guessing they'd pay out at least hundred million dollars. Yet nobody has come forth to expose the scam. Surely there's at least one scientist in the world who could use a little extra cash like that. Why haven't they come forward with evidence that global warming is a scam? How is it that the generations of scientists who have studied climate since John Tyndall explained the physics in the 1850s have managed to keep this global warming conspiracy secret? Why has nobody convincingly spoken out in 150 years? Hard to believe isn't it?

  • Shinobi Shaw

I don't how giant and coal companies anything to do with the matter at hand that this *scam* will basically put a handicap on the further development of the 1st world, raise taxes to obscene levels and control every facet of human life.

And according to some of the folk on this thread (based on their responses) the SUN has no effect on the Earth's weather patterns whatsoever (because they are saying that the Sun does not cause Climate Change on Earth).

So then I wonder what is causing the climate change in the rest of the Solar System's planetary bodies if the (according to the folks above) The Sun is not the cause of climate change.

Do they think fairies are doing it? Maybe that's the case, fairies are the cause of CC and not the SUN with its cyclical activity.

What tax will be raised to what level?

  • rhonda718

I have to confess: I don't know if temperatures are rising. I don't know if man is contributing to that. I've not looked at the data, not sure I would understand it, but I tend to believe the majority of scientists who have.

What I do know is that there always consequences, one way or another, to constantly spewing s@#$ into our atmosphere, water or elsewhere.

How anyone can make a case that we should be burning something (which we tend to get from the most unstable parts of the world) with huge amounts of pollution over pursuing windmills, solar panels and nuclear power plants is beyond me...

  • MrCholly

Is this strange or what it's cold in the winter. How bizarre.

  • books

everybodys an expert on climate change, specially bloggers. you folks are funny. wheres the flooding I was told was going to happen? where are the disasters.

Did you even Look at that page you posted??

Overall rainfall over the contiguous U.S. is increasing by at least 6% per century from 1901.

    from 1901!!! OMG. 6%!

Increased precipitation is occurring in the Northeast!!!

    NOONONO!!!

and god forbid your ego isn't big enough to think you fully understand the worlds weather system you're a 'climate illiterate' a 'layman'. screw you, I know a scam when I see one. and this is much ado about nothing.

  • ladyjane

FYI- it might not be you that gets swallowed up in water, how about your grandchildren?

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/03/090315155112.htm

this is just one of many scientific research studies pointing to these trends.

where does your information come from? a quick peak out the window? so...who's acting like they know everything about climate change?

that article doesnt make it seem that bad. nyc wont be under water. we are a few feet above sea level, maybe some area will need dykes or canals in case there is a storm.

"New York City is 16 feet above the mean sea level, with some parts of lower Manhattan only about 5 feet above the mean sea level, a rise of 8.3 inches in addition to the global mean rise would pose a threat to this region, especially if a hurricane or winter storm surge occurs"

its all bunk. maybe civilization. or life effects the planet. sure. fine. whats the alternative? certainly capitalism cant work if people have the choice of buying big cars, houses, taking trips and according to a recent study having a dog is worse than an SUV. having children becomes EVIL when you think of the IMPACT On the planet. Suicide become HEROIC. help save the world. off yourself.

so we will need a state controlled economy. FORCED Population control. a culture that doesnt celebrate life. We'll need to rework civilization.

I'm giving you some adivice - dont waste your time worrying about shat like this. it means nothing. everyone who cares about has some interest at heart that has nothing to do with their grandchildren or the 'planet'. it will mean nothing in 10 years. mark my words.

  • Kevin Walsh

Cold? Heh. In NYC the temperature has not dropped below 16 yet this winter.

In December 1917-January 1918 the daily lows in Central Park dropped below zero several days in a row, reaching a low of 13 below. There was a repeat performance in February 1934.

When it does that, we'll talk cold.

Yes, this "prediction" is another case of AccuWeather and Bastardi hyping something that doesn't exist. Their own 15-day forecast shows only slightly below normal weather for the next two weeks. January and February 2004 were much colder than that and much of last January was just as cold as what they are predicting.

I would really like to know how someone is predicting a blizzard more than a month in advance. They seem to be forecasting by analogy, which is odd because the most widely read meteorology paper ever demonstrated that forecasting by analogy is impossible.

    Sigh...

  • NannyState

I'm shivering through three layers of superficiality.

  • Angelheaded Hipster

    he's mr snow miser

    he''s mr snow

    he's mr snow miser

    he's mr ten below!

  • Shinobi Shaw

Can the author refrain from turning a weather post into a political issue?

Climate Change is caused by the SUN and not man made and more people are waking up to that fact each day.
