While the city escaped with less than an inch of snow this weekend, eastern Long Island got hit with another several inches the white stuff snow. Upton, where the National Weather Service forecast office is located, led the pack with 9.7 inches. With little moisture in the air no snow is expected today. The wind will still be with us as yesterday's storm deepens over the Canadian maritimes so look for a high near 30 but it will feel a good 10-15 degrees colder.
Cool and dry conditions will be the rule for much of the week as a giant high pressure system settles in over country east of the Rockies. Temperatures will run slightly below normal, with highs near freezing, through Thursday.
It is not really clear yet, but early indications are that conditions may be ripe for another coastal storm to develop Thursday night or Friday. More certainly the city should see another cold wave by the weekend.
