  • The NY Times has a heartbreaking story about how more Korean Americans have been committing suicide, apparently ashamed over financial failures. One Queens couple set themselves on fire earlier this year; the husband left a note for their daughter, "I love you, my daughter. I’m very sorry to leave you alone. It would’ve been much better if you had a wealthier father."
  • Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau and Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta stepped down today.

  • The Broadway musical Ragtime will close on January 10, a week later than announced. Apparently news of its early closing prompted a surge in ticket sales.

    the korean-americans are not alone in their simplistic, "excellence" driven ambitions. A certain strata of white people suffer from the same disease. It's sad, but it's also frustrating when such a narrow view of success is allowed to dominate our culture.
