Bloomberg's Ball Drop, Followed By Diddy's Drive Home

phpeEDPUMPM.jpg Are you tired of hearing about New Year's Eve yet? The Daily News reports on another little corner of the celebration, where some overachieving high school seniors will aid Mayor Bloomberg in dropping the ball tomorrow. Bill and Hillary Clinton helped him out last year, and often celebrities are invited — but this year it's all about the kids. Karnisa Aya, a student government president at the High School for American Studies at Lehman College in the Bronx, told the paper, "It's still sort of surreal. I think it will be pretty cold, but it will be a really fun time. The fact that we get to meet the mayor is pretty cool too." She was chosen through a system where principals from twelve public schools made a list of top students.

Meanwhile, even if you aren't helping drop the ball, Diddy is making sure you get home safe tomorrow — the NY Post reports that about $100,000 worth of $15 debit cards and single-ride MetroCards will be dispersed as part of the CIROC Safe Rides Home program he supports. If you want to get your hands on one, you'll have to head to Times Square between 8 p.m. and midnight.

    "some overachieving high school seniors"

why would you phrase it that way?

  • valeriob

I think a rewording of "will aid Mayor Bloomberg in dropping the ball tomorrow" is more necessary.

"Are you tired of hearing about New Year's Eve yet?"

Not nearly as tired as I am of hearing about Jersey Shore.

JUST ANOTHER Bloombag scandal that the Sheeple overlook b/c they're bad with details.

WHY ON EARTH does our "altruistic" mayor NEED TO PUT HIS NAME AND FACE ON EVERYTHING? Esp if he's not the third world dictator many of us say he is?

WHY did we have Dick Clark and NOT the Mayor host the TV shows from Times Square?

It was RUDY who demanded HE BE THE STAR every new years and now Mike insists HE be the international star!

    POWER CORRUPTS.

If we arrested and removed politicians who abuse their authority THE FIRST TIME they did it, we'd have a world that is nearly utopian!

    WORST MAYOR EVER.

I'm pretty sure he's, like, the mayor of New York City.

    You can go scratch now.

  • CR

Yeah, a mayor who wants to be the center of attention for the biggest photo opp of the year - SHOCKING!!!

"POWER CORRUPTS" - WTF are you talking about? Not everything Bloomberg does is corrupt - sometimes he's just being the mayor. Listen dipshit, if you yell "corruption" on every little f*ckin' thing it starts to become meaningless - sort of a "boy who cried wolf" situation, which is unfair to wolves (isn't that right Felix?)

Were you alive, or politically conscious during the terms of any previous mayors?

  • Mr Mel

    That's probably a tough question.
