There's no real way to know by looking at someone, or even by getting their demographic info (surname, country of origin, etc), whether they're a radical Muslim terrorist. My boyfriend has dark skin and a Muslim-sounding name and is atheist. A rosy-cheeked blond German is one of the most Allah-fearing dudes I know.

The best way to know if someone is a terrorist is the fact that they're smuggling explosives in their clothes, or that they have connections to known terrorist organizations. Which law enforcement could concentrate on detecting if they didn't have SCARY BROWN PPL ONOEZ!1!11!!! on the brain.

All they needed was to stop him at the gate and ask him some questions for 10 minutes. Proper questioning would have revealed that he had no CREDIBLE plans on where to stay in Detroit/Dearborn and no plans to return. That would have been enough to get him interrogated further.

Exactly. There is no need to ethnically profile when any airport security official with two brain-cells to rub together should have immediately seen the warning signs. A one-way ticket bought by a resident of Yemen on a terrorist watch-list with cash in Ghana for a flight that departs from Amsterdam. No travel plans at his final destination. Duh.

Airlines should be required to flag all one-way ticket sales for intercontinental flights paid for in cash. These individuals should be asked a short series of stock questions, not unlike the questions asked by customs officials, at the security checkpoint. People who turn up fishy should be kept for further investigation. All this should happen regardless of your skin color, surname, or country of origin. This isn't that hard, y'all.
