Community Wants "Sean Bell Way" ASAP

2009_12_seanbellst.jpg While the naming of three blocks in Queens after police shooting victim Sean Bell is scheduled to take place next month, apparently that's not soon enough for some community activists. The City Council approved the street naming earlier this week, but, according to the Post, Rev. Omar Wilks said, "We are here to say that as a community who loved Sean Bell, who struggled, who protested ... for Sean Bell, we're not going to wait for the mayor to sign off on his approval. The community, we are going to take charge and the community's going to put a street name up for Sean Bell." Mayor Bloomberg has said he will sign "Sean Bell Way" into effect; the Post adds that a mayoral spokesman "said it is illegal to rename a street without city approval."

These idiotic race hustlers need some kind of street post to work under. Maybe the Rev. can even autograph a few CDs for us...

  • LaLuneEstMorte

What about Amadou Diallo Blvd/Way/Avenue? Why doesn't have a street? Sean Bell does not deserve a street named after him if Diallo didn't get one

  • dgeee

When will we see a "Charles Manson Boulevard"?

  • marcasm

These "community activists" should spend more time educating youth that Sean Bell died as a result of the lifestyle he led.

  • Billiamsburg

u white devils will neva undustand r culture. yall crackas iz so ignant.

  • MrManhattan

Looks to me like "Billiamsberg" learned to spell by reading Sarah Palin tweets (remember, trash comes in ALL colors!)

  • Snoopy

I believe ignant is spelled with an "e" with the accent on the third syllable.

This guy was a thug. The renaming of city streets should be reserved for honored people that have died. By giving this thug a 3 block area it has defamed the names of great New Yorkers who have streets named after them. Suggestion for the street sign. "Thug Sean Bell St"

  • hotstepper

this story explains everything we need to know about "the community" in question.

  • kazubes

Mister mayor....give that man his street!

  • Snoopy

How about cutting down on the thug crime in your neighborhood instead of worrying when a street sign will be put up Rev. Omar Wilks?

What a gutter culture these people are.

  • HOTCUP

probably not the phony nightmare that yours is.

  • Snoopy

I hope you meet up with some of his pals that were in the car that night with him and get a taste of the culture that spawns fools like Bell and his ilk. Don't forget to bring your "gat."

  • HOTCUP

hey, i'm definitely not for renaming a street after this guy, but that doesn't change the fact that you and hotstepper are pretty damn naive and snotty to blame what happened on "black culture" or whatever.

too bad the white man's burden didn't work out for you guys.

  • Snoopy

My relatives came over from the old country as peasants living in almost feudal conditions fifty years after formal slavery died in the US, so I have no empathy for the ten or fifteen generations of blacks that have continually blamed their condition and asked for permanent handouts because of what happened almost 150 years ago.

Asians were disrespected and suffered prejudice in America in the late 19th century as much as the blacks and they are one of the most vibrant cultures in America today. Their children excel in school and don't go around wearing pants that are halfway down their legs and talking like ebonics is the new English. Why? Because they have a family that the children match the same name of their father and mother and respect the people around them.

  • HOTCUP

"My relatives came over from the old country as peasants..."

oh jesus, that's as far as i got. give me a break.

  • sexisicilian

Thank you. Bell & his crew were not pillars of society, get real. And, by the way, Merry Christmas Snoopy:)

    Buon Natale
