For Unknown Reason, Neglected Dog Returned to Owner
This is certainly not helping us get any happier. A Queens blogger reports that on December 18th a dog was removed from a private home in the borough and brought to a vet. He was living in a crawl space under a porch, and clearly has mange — in the video, he had been bathed twice already. Thank goodness this poor pup (nicknamed Justice) was saved, right? However, "a neighbor lady told the owner where the dog was and was threatened with jail by the owner of dog. She got scared and now the vet's hands are tied."
Enter: The ASPCA. According to a concerned, anonymous person, the group stepped in but made things worse, telling the vet not to give the dog's rescuers any information, and to just send him back to the original owners! The rescuers say the ASPCA claims to have not seen anything wrong with the dog. Hmm...really, because this dog seems like it could fit right into their heartwrenching, Sarah McLachlan-soundtracked commercial:
The ASPCA, which noted that it did not seize the dog in the first place and that its investigation is still open, has told us: "He is in the custody of the owner, who is taking him regularly to a vet, and we are monitoring that situation. Our understanding is that the owner reclaimed his dog from the vet who was treating him."

Justice was outside with the other dog last night in the 19 degree weather!!!! Please join the FB page for updates on this poor animal that the ASPCA gave back to its moronic owners to basically die!
Also, you should all know that in addition to killing Oreo, they have just killed another dog for no reason. Max, another pit bull. He's not famous like Oreo, but he didn't deserve to die either.
This sounds similar to that case on LI not to long ago, they just get off on controlling the fate of the animal. Still don't understand how the entire family is ok with it or how no one else has stepped in.
if anyone knows about real estate, why is his home exempt from paying full tax?

i once saw a bum with a dog pulling a shopping cart, he kept beating the dog. i took the dog home when he tied it the next day up outside a store, fed, bathed him etc. jumped in a cab and took him to the aspca where the dog was euthanized the next day for health reasons.
its owner surrender or lost dog, theres no private confiscation theft box to check off on the form.
sorry asswipes, you stole a dog you should be arrested also.
would you take a kid if child services didnt?
huh would you, so you care more about a damm dog than a child? right, you know its called kidnapping and taking a dog from somebody's house is called theft of property, burglary, trespass etc.
so type away about what you'd do if your plane was hijacked or if you saw a subway stabbing or if a dog is neglected, come see me, ill point out some stuff you can take action on, bring your super hero cape...
right, your just a keyboard doggie poo-poo talker...
all point&click and no action.

So what's your point? Get with it. This is just another one of your rambling, semi-coherent comments.
Are you trying to become the poster child for the argument against the legalization of pot?
potsmoker
you guys are morons, lets see now,
someone smacks their kids yells at them on a regular basis, kid looks hungry and has scabs and scars all over.
solution: sneak on to the property, kidnap the kid, take it to your house, the doctor, then call child services and ask that the parent be arrested. it would never happen in a million years.
you stole a dog from its owner. simple.
you commited an actual crime and want the aspca to take your word for it. now the owner can say its not my dog.
but the aspca is smarter than you stupid, the owner is now repsonsible for the dog and any legal liability for neglect IF there was neglect, dumbasses.
clickitivism at its finest...
what their restaurant name, im doing to cater my xmas dinner from them. they deserve support from blog mob justice.
im still waiting on catkiller, i owe him a beer.

Quit giving pot smokers a bad name.

The neighbors removed the dog and took it to the veterinarian ONLY after their calls to the ASPCA went unheeded. I'm not saying that it's right to take a dog from its owners, but the frustrated neighbors felt that removing the dog was their last option. The neighbors also said they had seen two other dogs die while under the care of these irresponsible owners.
fwiw - your comments are poorly written so some of your statements sound illogical and confused. It's difficult to tell whether it's the pot or that you're simply functionally illerate. Which is it?
kleinpeter
Ok, first off -jack ass- there's no real reason for you -shithead- to call everyone who's stating their opinion rude names. Disagree, sure - but don't be a dick.
Second - you miserable, vomitous mass, considering the fact that most people, such as this dog's owner, don't see animals as living beings the way the do humans - if I were to know some stupid mother f*cker like this were to be neglecting an animal in this capacity, hell yeah I would go in and take the animal rather than just watch it happen. Call me wrong, but I have no trust of Animal Control of the ASPCA anymore.
kleinpeter
Ok, that's it - I do not trust the ASPCA anymore. They're totally like the governement - mending the convicted only to kill them (RIP Oreo), and now giving back the child to the abusive parent.
There needs to either be a serious change in those who make the decisions and protocol, or a new organization needs to step up and take over.

So it's a small "American" type neighborhood with more cars than people (judging by Google satellite view) It really shouldn't be hard to identify the actual house (it's the one with the dying dog under the porch, how many can there be?)
just saying
This is beyond disgusting. I don't see how the ASPCA could allow this dog to be sent back to an irresponsible owner(s). And those owners aren't crackheads on welfare. That Greek family owns several restaurants in the area so they can afford basic medical treatment for their animal.
Demodex mange is caused and exacerbated by unhygienic living conditions, poor diet and stress. This dog was being kept as a watchdog under their porch. It wouldn't be surprising to learn that he's back under the porch with little protection from the bitter cold.
Shame on the ignorant, cheap owners of "Justice" and shame on the ASPCA for allowing the dog to be returned to the owner or owners. This is just another reason to think twice before sending donations to the ASPCA.
The unfortunate reality is that the ASPCA is nothing like their glorified show "Animal Precinct" on Animal Planet.
This is what the NYTimes had to say about the ASPCA:
"Increasingly, since the cable series first aired in 2001, the face of the A.S.P.C.A. has been Ms. [Annemarie] Lucas, the pretty, assertive animal welfare investigator. She is the host of fund-raising infomercials and has become one of the society's highest paid employees, earning $141,000 a year, according to its last financial filing. That is more than the amount paid to her boss, Mr. Riedel, and to the veterinarian who is the director of medicine for the society's animal hospital."
