Movin' On Up: Markowitz Buys First Home

121709martymarkowitz.jpg After being a renter his whole life, Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz bought his first home in Windsor Terrace for $1.45MM. The two-story, three-bedroom brick house boasts a driveway, fireplace, a covered porch, and is just one block from Prospect Park. And no, the money didn't come from taxpayers.

One aide tells the Daily News that most of the money came from the sale of a Manhattan Beach home inherited by Markowitz's wife. However, no real estate purchase is ever complete without a little bit of drama. Markowitz used his chief of staff, Carlo Scissura, as a lawyer for the property deal, even though it's illegal for city lawyers to represent their public official bosses in private matters. Oops! Somehow, we think this one will slide.

Markowitz and his wife plan to move in sometime in January, and neighbors seem excited for the extra perks he'll probably bring. "It means we'll be plowed early and we'll have our garbage picked up," neighbor Jenny Vanegas told the Daily News. New neighborhood bonus: more stoop drinking!

"Politicians get in office, then become wealthy" He's the poorest man I ever read about. In my opinion, a man of his age and position, should have more of his own money to buy a house. First 750K from his wife inheritance, Second 417K from mortgagae(The most you can get for a conventional loan) and addtional funds from a "slip and fall case".

How much of his own money did he put down. Any one could buy a million dollar house with those outside sources of income. He seems to have accumulated nothing from his own work in all these years. Kinda strange when you look at it from a different perspective.

he uses a city lawyer for his own private purposes.

i wonder how much money he saved? what a disgusting fuckin' piece of garbage he is. yeah, i wonder how he would feel if mayor 'eminent domain' decided to kick him out of his home for a basketball arena. this guy has no shame. he is so loud and stupid.

    Typical.

Politicians get in office, then become wealthy without any significant income to speak of.

    RATNER?

hey did you ever ebay auction / donate to charity all those Murakami items your wife swiped????

    from gothamist 2008:

Marty Markowitz's Wife Hogs Swag at Murakami Gala

Some attendees say Jamie Snow, wife of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, was rather boorish in her accumulation of freebies at the event.

Each diner at the gala was entitled to one special edition technicolor fiberglass placemat designed by the trendy artist, but it seems Snow’s sense of entitlement was big enough to accommodate eight of the souvenirs, which she snatched from abandoned place settings and had autographed by Murakami after dinner. The mats have been sold for up to $1,000 on eBay by revelers who took them from previous events.

When some attendees at Thursday’s gala realized they missed out on the placemats, they went crying to Snow for one of her eight. According to Radar, she had little sympathy: "You guys really should have acted faster. This is Brooklyn!” Other placemat pleas reportedly elicited responses such as, “You snooze, you lose, buddy. Forget it.” And when her husband, the borough president, was asked to intervene, he responded with a shrug: “Just try being married to her.”

Oh no Windsor Terrace, there goes the neighborhood, Ms. Vanegas, you realize he's jewish, in fact he may put up a menorah at chanukah, oh i bet you'll let him slide, unless of course the plows don't plow your street first.

He can still shop at Key Food.

I hope his home is taken by the government and handed over a private developer, the way he has helped Forest City Ratner do to middle and working class residents for the Atlantic Yards project. I think a big roller derby arena, punk rock club or bowling alley would be a much better addition to Windsor Terrace than this corrupt windbag.

Well... I dont want the government to do more than they already have... I hope the PEOPLE turn his ass in to a basketball arena.
