Schumer Calls Flight Attendant a Bitch After Cell Phone Admonishment

121609schumer.jpg Senator Chuck Schumer is doing damage control today after he was overheard calling a flight attendant a bitch. The Pool Party lover was sitting next to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand aboard a US Airways shuttle as the crew prepared to begin a flight from New York to Washington on Sunday. Both senators were talking on their cell phones when an unidentified flight attendant approached and told them to terminate their calls. Can you believe the nerve of this woman, telling famous ruling class elites to follow the rules?

Neither could Schumer, and he reportedly lost his cool after his request to finish his call were denied. He turned off his phone, but continued arguing with the attendant, who explained that "she doesn’t make the rules, she just follows them." After she walked away, Schumer turned to Gillibrand and called the attendant a bitch. It seems she was out of earshot, but an unidentified Republican aide heard it, and went running to Politico. Now Schumer's spokesman says, "The senator made an off-the-cuff comment under his breath that he shouldn’t have made, and he regrets it."

The witness also says that Schumer's phone rang again, but he didn't answer it, saying, "It’s Harry Reid calling. I guess health care will have to wait until we land." So now we can blame US Airways and Joe Lieberman for killing the public option! Of course, no politician swear-gate could top that one time when Vice President Dick Cheney was amicably approached by Senator Pat Leahy on the floor of the senate, only to have the Vice President tell him, "Go fuck yourself." Vice never apologized, but he did get it served back to him by a passer-by in post-Katrina New Orleans. In lieu of any Schumer video, here's that timeless classic:

"O'REILLY: And I think there's some teeth flossing. A couple billion for floss. Yeah, we all know what this is, but it's going to get passed, and that's it.

Now Leahy, Senator Patrick Leahy, one of your best pals, you know, I always wanted to know, and you got to tell me if you know, that's the rule, Mr. Rove. The rule is you have to tell me if you know why Dick Cheney told Leahy to "F-off."

ROVE: Senator Leahy made public remarks questioning the integrity of Dick Cheney and suggesting that he had been involved in nefarious schemes benefiting Halliburton. And then he came up and attempted to make pal-y, pal-y good guy with Vice President Cheney, who had had enough of the duplicitous — duplicity and hypocrisy of Senator Leahy.

    Hey! Mr. Del Snore;

Leahy, a very special kind of scumbag socialist, accused Cheney of leading military contracts to Halliburton and Cheney offered a rightful response. (I would have broken his jaw.)

You see, those capable for their own governance know that there are only two corporations big enough (and the personnel with clearances) to support our boys at war.

One is French owned, the other is Halliburton....Isn't knowledge a wonderful thing?? Try it sometime.

  • mellow_fellow

[Cheney] did get it served back to him by a passer-by in post-Katrina New Orleans.
*AHEM* A chyron identifies the location as Gulfport, Mississippi.

  • NewHCE

I think its cute that Gillibrand can't even take a flight without Chuckie there to babysit her.

She is such a sock puppet.

  • dgeee

Schumer's one tiny step above Joe Lieberman.

  • NannyState

US Airways should just add calling its flight attendants "bitch" to its endless list of fees and charges. That alone might keep them in the air for another year.

  • nicemarmot

Yeah I gotta say...if he's one of those guys who can't bear to turn off his phone for 20 minutes, why doesn't he just take the train? My fiance, who does it all the time for business, claims the Acela is actually faster than the shuttle.

  • Sommelier

Cellphones do not interfere with aircraft during takeoffs, flights or landings. I've been stuck on the tarmac for over two hours, sitting idly, and been admonished to put my cell phone away. Senators don't have enough hours in the day to get all of their work done... so why make two of them sit on their hands while they could be on the phone, doing their jobs?

Republican flight attendant, perhaps? No one seems to have thought to bring up that possibility.

Besides, if our two Senators simply sat there, some troll would try filing a story about "with two wars going on, the deficits soaring, millions of jobs lost, the healthcare crisis... BOTH of Liberal New York's Democrat (sic) Senators just SAT THERE!!!!! DOING NOTHING!!! NOTHING!!! It's treason, I tells ya! Treason!"

  • hotstepper

stuck on tarmac = annoying situation.

stuck on tarmac next to your cell-phone blabbering ass = imminent assault.

  • Sommelier

    Like you'd have the balls.

  • Pizza_Time

These entitled asses need to remember that they are not "Ruling" or "In Power"

They are "IN SERVICE" to the people and the Constitution.

  • hotstepper

    you're joking right?

  • ab_bklyn

I don't understand why people still take shuttle flights from NY to DC. When you factor in the time it takes to get to and from the airports, plus time for check-in and the security line, taking Amtrak/Acela is just as fast. Plus, it's (a little) cheaper and it's more environmentally friendly. AND he could have talked on his cell phone the whole way there...

  • Gwinny

Um, I just priced out an Acela ticket roundtrip to DC and it was nearly $400. I didn't think it would be cheaper -- I take the Acela to Philly all the time (buying in advance) and that usually costs around $220. You can definitely fly the shuttle for less than that.

  • grandzu

Skipping the security check, a free car to where ever you want to go, and flying on someone else's dime, I'm sure all that beats the train.

  • AvenueHebrew

Yeah, terrific. Our senator can pick on some poor flight attendant for asking him to turn off a cell phone, but he can't even stand up to a simpering creampuff like Joe Lieberman?

  • youngpro

when did anyone here argue the method of transportation? oh, no one.

secondly, if it were a US Airways flight then I believe it. She probably WAS a bitch about it.

Thirdly, why are both senators from NY on the SAME flight?

  • AvenueHebrew

Seconded. It's not that hard, Schumer - make like Biden and take the train.

  • cire_the_don_dada

    SCHMUCK Schumer! :D

  • felixthecat2

    The republicans are so desperate.

  • hotstepper

no surprise that it was schumer, but cell phone yackers of any stripe are entitled assholes. the bitchy flight attendant should have referred schumer to homeland security, he was definitely smuggling a bald spot.

  • captainblackout

    Schumer's a schmuck.

  • brooklynmouthoff

    politicians are crap.

  • valeriob

    Keep fuckin' that chicken Schumer!
