Men At Work... On Moving Tram?

phpLuA7HVAM.jpg

This looks dangerous! Restless reports seeing a Manhattan-bound Roosevelt Island Tram yesterday dangling above the East River... and then moving with "two men dangling off it, a few hundred feet above ground. And they were climbing around." Well, this seems like a terrible idea. Video here.

As nycgrid stated this is all pretty normal. No big deal.

Well, there's a dude on it. Hard to see, but he's there. I think that's why they posted the link

That's not unusual at all. They're up there every few days to grease the wheels and perform general maintenance. It's pretty common for the cabin to stop at one of the towers to drop off or pick up the workers. (This can be pretty infuriating during the morning rush hour when you count on the tram to take no more than 5 minutes to get you to Manhattan.)

Though, from what I've seen, they're always hooked into a harness, which is either attached to the wheel train, the tower, or both. So it's actually pretty safe.
