Bernanke Named Time's Person of the Year

2009_12_Mano.jpg Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, the "most powerful nerd on the planet," was named as Time Magazine's Person of the Year 2009. For a magazine that has often savored picking controversial, argument-starters (Bono in 2005?, you in 2006?), Bernanke, "with his perpetually guilty, Eeyore-like expression," definitely seems like a particularly relevant pick. Time calls him, "the most important and least understood force shaping the American — and global — economy." You can find the full list of runner-ups and "people who mattered" here.

There's not much there to understand, Bernanke is a cipher. He is the Eichmann of this slo-mo putsh brought to you by mega-banks. Just a blank functionary for evil.

NYC Educational system fails miserably. I wondered how many people in NYC know who Bernake is and what he does. I bet less than 8% will know.

I bet even fewer actually care, at least until their money becomes worthless.

People who mattered list; Twilight, Taylor Swift, Sully, Tiger Woods, and Barack Obama.

    What a category.

This was a good choice, more people need to understand that the fundamentals of our monetary system go further than the cheeseburger they just bought with their maxed out credit cards at 29%.

"the most important and least understood force shaping the America"

The latter is probably true, but I don't know about the former.
