Bo-Tax Protest Staged in Times Square

Bike riders weren't the only ones demonstrating in the rain yesterday; in Times Square a small but annoying group gathered to protest a Congressional proposal to tax breast augmentations, facelifts, tummy tucks and other procedures, as a way to fund a health care bill. The protest was organized by an affluent Park Avenue plastic surgeon, Dr. Stephen Greenberg, who was on hand holding a sign that read, "Washington leave our boobs alone." But this video of the small, shrill protest suggests that Greenberg might have his hands full trying to rally the masses.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, over 12 million people in the US had cosmetic procedures in 2008. Protester Irma Cadiz, a Bronx waitress, wants to join them, but she fears the tax might put the procedure beyond her reach, and told the Post, "I want to get the tummy tuck, but it would cost somewhere between $6,000 and $10,000. Adding the tax would make it even worse." And poor Dr. Greenberg insisted he wasn't out there protesting for himself, but for poor, unhappy "average" people who want "to feel better about themselves. The misconception about people having cosmetic-surgery procedures is that they're wealthy."

Don't want to pay the bo-tax? Join a gym, it's cheaper.

Looks like the dudes running the Times Square peepshows were more than willing to join in Dr. Greenberg's crusade for tax free boob jobs.

Gimme a break. Reconstructive surgery for people who have lost parts to disease or injury, sure. But nose jobs? Fergit it.

Sorry, stay ugly, it's a recession.

If you can't afford the 10 percent tax you probably can't afford the procedure. Please put your cash in the bank or in an IRA.
