Woman Considered For Fire Commish Position

2009_12_myland.jpg With Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta's year-end resignation coming soon, the city is looking for the next FDNY Commish—and it could be a woman. NY1 reports that its sources say that "Mylan Denerstein is being considered for the position. If named, she would be the first woman to be city fire commissioner. Denerstein is no stranger to the New York City Fire Department, having served as deputy fire commissioner for legal affairs from 2003 to 2006. She has served as executive deputy attorney general for social justice for the state since January 2007."

just what we need in this city. another ****stein, ****berg, katz, cohen, etc. in a leadership position

god forbid this city actually puts someone in the office that actually has done the job that they are overseeing!!! over the last 2 1/2 decades i have worked with many men on the job that are more than qualified. she may be a good lawyer but unless the court house was on fire and she went to work with full bunker and a scott pack to do it she is not the person i want as commisioner . my suggestion would be for someone to take this mayor to HQ and introduce him to the seasoned members that have busted there ass for this city

One of the most hated fire commissioners by the rank and file was Joe Bruno who was neither a fire fighter or anything else but a political hack and is now the commissioner of OEM. He sold out the FDNY when Ben Ward was the police commissioner. Just pray that we do not have anything more serious than several cats stuck up some trees at the same time while he is on the watch.

But then again Tom Von Essen (a former firefighter and union president) was also disliked. Mostly because he knew what the unions wanted and fought them after becoming commissioner.

    Peggy?

the firemen are going to LOVE that

it shows bloomberg doesn't care what they think at all

  • felixthecat2

FDNY didn't endorse Bloomberg who killed 2 of their men in Deutsche Bank. I am sure Bloomberg will only make things harder for them. Scoppetta did exactly what bloomberg wanted and didn't look out for the firefighters. I have nothing against this woman but she never was a firefighter. Why does Bloomberg put non teachers to head the BOE and now a non firefighter to head FDNY.

What do you mean NOW? Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta was never a firefighter.

  • felixthecat2

I didn't know but that explains a lot.

Why wouldn't they the Fire Commisioner someone who has actually been with the fire dept, taking down fires with the rest of the troops.

  • chuzzlewit

there's no way this woman torched enough plastic army men as a kid to be a fire commissioner.

  • Snoopy

I bet the rank and file will not be happy with this decision. But then again it's good to see Scoppetta out of there.
