Yankees Re-Sign Pettitte For One Year And $11.75 Million

2009_08_andy.jpg The Yankees have re-signed pitcher Andy Pettitte, one of the "core four" of last years championship team, to a one-year deal worth $11.75 million, according to sources. The two-time all-star, who has played 11 of his 14 seasons with the Yankees, was eager to return for the 2010 season after a resurgent, injury-free 2009 and a strong playoff run, going 4-0 with a 3.52 ERA in five starts.

The signing comes close on the heels of news that the Yankees will be announcing a three-way trade for Tigers OF Curtis Granderson, a player ESPN is saying "may not be the face of the franchise. But he's clearly now the face of their future."

Meanwhile, the Mets have made their own waves by re-signing utility backup infielder Alex Cora to a one-year contract, and switching their home pinstriped uniforms to a "retro" design, to better provoke memories of their championship 1969 team, not the completely irrelevant 2009 version.

you don't really believe there is a chance in hell of that after signing granderson, do you? Matsui is as good as gone, definitely.

Matsui won The World Series MVP 2009. That's hard, but not impossible to ignore.
