Where To Buy Your Christmas Tree In 2009

Looking for that perfect Christmas tree is always a pain, but finding a location that's convenient to your apartment may be even more painful. Nobody wants to walk the all the blocks around their neighborhood looking for a tree, find the perfect 5' tree (small apartments, after all), only to have to drag it 10 blocks to their apartment. So we're putting together this handy dandy map of tree locations around the city in hopes of making it a little easier for everyone to find a tree of their choosing.

Have you spotted a tree vendor near you? Email us at tips@gothamist.com and let us know where you've seen Christmas trees for sale and we'll update the map above. The more specific you can be with the location, the better!

    ALL TREES $25 - VERIFIED - 49th & 9th

    Merry Christmas Everyone..

I just got back from 49th & 9th and YES VIRGINIA THEY DO HAVE $25 TREES.. They are HUGE - the one I got was about 7 Feet tall - but I had him trim off the lower 3 feet to make it about 4 feet.. The tree was $25 and for trimming and for him tying it up - I tipped him $10.. I took the subway back home to 28th & Madison, where the tree I was going to purchase was $55 - I still saved $20 WITH THE TIP!!

They are very nice and helpful there.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I made an error in my post yesterday - the place I go is on 2nd between 19th and 20th (not 18th and 19th).

I got my tree last night as well as some greens for my windowsill. They couldn't have been nicer. Gave me a good deal, delivered and put the tree in the stand for me! And it's a beaut, I tell you.

The guy in charge is Larry - tell him Kate sent you!

Any more in the Financial District? Also it's my first time buying a tree. Can I buy one for $25-$30? and do the stands come with it or is that another form of highway robbery?

  • Tien

I think you can find something for $30, but it's not going to be that big a tree, I don't think. And the stands are sold separately.

There's a spot that covers a block on 2nd Avenue from 18-19th streets. I've bought my tree there for the last few years. Very friendly, good selection and, most importantly, they'll delliver it back to your apartment for you. No need to schlep!

There's one outside the Duane Reade at 51st & 1st. Beware, I've seen dogs peeing on the trees there.

  • JacqueMehoff

I just came from a great place over the Thanksgiving holiday to get a Xmas tree, North Carolina tree farms, plenty of pine and fir. didn't pick one up.

did pick up a cute black and white persian kitty cat.

Re: Key Foods/Fifth Ave. Park Slope

The French-Canadian woman who runs this stand is lovely, helpful and always cheerful, despite sleeping in her van in that parking lot from Thanksgiving until just before Christmas. Half the neighborhood has befriended her, brings her coffee, food and offers her their shower.

She is generous with her trees: prices are right, cuttings are free for garland, displays, mulch, etc. I look forward to seeing her again next weekend. A real saint.

  • hotstepper

  • Brado

This list is a work in progress, moron. If you have a suggestion as to where people can buy a fucking tree in Queens, feel free to pass it along. Idiot.

  • TrippinJoJo

    i love ny.

  • hotstepper

reread my first comment. see how i don't mention "tree", "map" or anything remotely christmasy? that could be because it was a general comment about this blog. be sure to cup my balls while you take that all in loverboy.

  • Brado

That makes no sense whatsoever. But let's not fight, Queens isn't worth the trouble.
