Cardinal Egan's Testimony In Sex Abuse Cases

2009_03_egan2.jpg The Archdiocese of Bridgeport was ordered to make public its documents related to sexual abuse allegations. And they suggest that Cardinal Edward Egan, who stepped down from the NY Archdiocese earlier this year and was Bridgeport's Bishop between 1988 and 2000, and his predecessor "either ignored complaints against...abusive priests, or simply did not believe them." The NY Times writes, "Throughout the testimony, Bishop Egan showed himself as an administrator who could be demanding of his staff, but at times felt limited in his ability to remove men from the priesthood despite several abuse complaints."

I'm always reminded of how Sinead O'Connor was vilified and reviled for trying to expose this bullshit to the world. Destroyed her career but I believe her actions were vindicated.

My question is, can these higher ups be charged with crimes? These guys were actively trying to cover up and hide sex abusers from the law.

And if they conspired to send child raping priests across state lines for reassignment, then it's a federal crime.

Even if these clowns never do a day in jail, the clarity of the legal criminal action would make it clear in a way their morality didn't.

Yes. Conspiring to obstruct justice is a felony in every state.
