Catholic League Pissed at PETA

Model, actress and animal lover Joanna Krupa is the latest face (and body) to be splashed across a PETA ad. The "Angel for Animals" theme, which has Krupa bearing a cross against her bare body, isn't sitting too well with everyone, however.

PETA says: "Joanna urges people to always adopt and never buy animals from a pet store or breeder. Puppies sold in pet shops typically come from puppy mills, where dogs are raised in cruel conditions and forced to live in tiny, filthy metal cages without any socialization or exercise. Every puppy or kitten who is bought prevents an animal in an animal shelter from finding a home." True enough!

However, Catholic League president Bill Donohue in New York calls PETA out for treating animals unethically (saying they "killed 95 percent of the adoptable pets in its care" last year). His real problem is with the whole cross thing, though. He says, "Now the animal killers have launched a Christmas campaign that exploits Christian symbols. It features Playboy queen Joanna Krupa... she appears 'as a winged angel, covered by a carefully-placed crucifix.' Once again, the target is pet stores. The fact is that cats and dogs are a lot safer in pet stores than they are in the hands of PETA employees. Moreover, pet stores don’t rip off Christian iconography and engage in cheap irreligious scams." [via Village Voice]

Do something similar for Rahmadan, cowards.

Isn't PETA just alienating potential supporters by using this advertisement? I know blasphemy is the cool thing to do these days, but I wonder if it will actually help them get their point across.

  • Krooklyn

    Dayamn!

    That is all. Thank you.

  • felixthecatSUX

Also, I love how I post a tounge-in cheek comment to the article and you come back with a sexist personal attack directly at me. That really lends credibility to EVERYTHING you post here ALL DAMN DAY. GO. OUTSIDE. ALREADY.

  • felixthecatSUX

It must be sad going through life not knowing what sarcasm is. Having to be pissed off and offended so deeply by blog commenters that you make death threats against others must be exhausting.

While the grammar is still lacking, unless you live in NC, you are citing another post. The appropiate way to post such things is to enclose the post in quotes, feel free to append the link, and then cite where you got it from.

We have the ability to Google for ourselves, so keep your offerings as yours, and offer others as theirs. Cite properly, quote others properly, and append with your comments. Cut and paste comments are just an echo

of your symapthies. They also dilute the message you wish to convey. While your heart may be in your own right place, your literary skills are greatly lacking. This not only detracts from the point you are trying to make, it also makes it confusing for some who may wish to argue or downright piss you off & enjoy the fun. Thank you.

I thought I'd never say this, but in your case Felix was right.

    +1. LOL

ETA picks up animals slated for death by gas chamber or 22 rifle to put them down by the more humane method of lethal injection. (gas chamber: as in injected with a paralytic agent so that they suffocate while their organs seize up in a cinder block cell). The animals, according Daphna Nachminovitch of PETA (who talked to the shelter) said there was never any question about "finding them homes". Only a peaceful death. I happen to live in NC, I know they shoot and gas animals still here. The shelter I volunteer at puts fully a third to sleep. Thanks to hack jobs like this, the shelter in question has resumed painful gassing as opposed to letting more humane groups take them. I guess they were embarrassed about the "littering". Ms. Saunders, you & your husband's hatred for anyone who does jibe with your extreme right wing agenda is well known. Get your facts rather than just google the latest corporate propadanda from CCF (or do you two work for Rick Berman)?

Not true. PETA's own spokespeople say that they are opposed to no-kill shelters and simply don't have the room to care for the pets surrendered to them. They kill animals surrendered to them by owners who are misled to believe that PETA is "humane" and operating a legitimate shelter. They killed 96% of the animals surrendered to them in 2006, which is a number far higher than any other group in the country.

If PETA were truly concerned about the euthanasia methods used in some shelters, they could surely campaign about them and try to effect some change. Lobbying for legislation to ban the use of gas would be a good start. That would require them to actually lobby for the welfare of animals, though, and we know they don't do that. Instead they choose to run a slaughterhouse.
