Ride the City Launches New Website

Website Ride the City debuted in 2008, integrating Google maps with data about ideal cycling routes. The site enables users to map a bike ride along as many bike paths as possible, or take their chances with the "fastest," most direct route. Tomorrow the site will launch a new version, which will now maintain elevation data for every city and show riders how much climbing to expect from any given route. Ride the City will also allow visitors to create a user profile and save their favorite routes.

Once they're logged in, users will also be able to rate any street segment anywhere in the city. These preferences will influence future routes the site maps out; for example, if you assign Sixth Avenue a low rating, the site will reflect that when plotting routes for you. Ride the City will also aggregate this data with other users' ratings to create a community rating. Preview the new version here!

  • ... "a bike ride along as many bike baths as possible"? I think you meant to say "bike paths."

Damn good idea. Now can we get real and just cold ban cars from midtown?

The "safer route" function should help you avoid dangerous obstacles such as housing projects and Brownsville.

NEWSFLASH! The bike route in brooklyn sands street bike lane has little hoodlum thugs throwing rocks on the overpass of the navy walk housing projects. They are 10-13 years old and are "urban" looking (that means they are black). They are trying to kill you so be very careful when riding under it.
