  • From the Gothamist Newsmap: A person under the train at Forest Pway at Jamaica Ave in Queens, a serious trauma on East 172 Street at Boynton Ave in the Bronx and a shooting at Broome & Ridge Streets in Manhattan.
  • A fire broke out in the Christmas tree section of a Long Island Wal-Mart.
  • A Paterson, NJ man shot his estranged wife and two sons—killing the 7-year-old—before an off-duty cop shot and killed him. A motive is unclear and the wife and surviving son remain in critical condition.
  • A man was shot outside a Bronx Old Navy 30 minutes before the store opened for the sale.
  • Get the trimmings out: Christmas trees arrive in Gerritsen Beach (and we've seen them around Manhattan too!).
  • A teenager with a debilitating seizure disorder—he's had 11 brain surgeries—has been friendly with his hockey hero Mark Messier for the past two years, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The teen and Messier will be honored at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night.
  • A Long Island woman was arrested for leaving her child in the car for at least 30 minutes while she went shopping (a passer-by called 911).
  • And LA Times sports writer Mike Penner, who announced in 2007 that he was a transsexual, died on Friday, apparently of suicide.
