Suspects in Bronx Teen Shooting Enjoy Nice Thanksgiving Dinner

Vada Vasquez
The family of Vada Vasquez, the 15-year-old Bronx girl who took a stray bullet to the skull last Monday, declined their usual Thanksgiving feast this year, postponing it until the teen can eat again. But the five young men accused of involvement in the shooting were given a seemingly generous Thanksgiving meal in jail yesterday. Dinner included turkey with dressing, yams, steamed greens and carrot cake!

After being told on Wednesday that Vasquez could make a full recovery, her family was further relieved yesterday, when the teen was finally moved from Lincoln Hospital to begin her physical therapy. Dr. Narayan Sundaresan, the neurosurgeon who removed the bullet from Vasquez's brain, tells the Post, "She's making tremendous progress every day. She'll probably miss a semester of school. She'll have special needs."

Dr. Sundaresan also says that if the bullet had struck from a different angle, Vasquez would be dead. Vasquez was shot while walking home from school on November 16th; a 16-year-old is accused of firing at least six shots, which were allegedly intended for a rival gang member, 19-year-old Tyrone Creighton, who took a bullet but also survived.

"But the five young men accused of involvement in the shooting were given a seemingly generous Thanksgiving meal in jail yesterday. Dinner included turkey with dressing, yams, steamed greens and carrot cake!"

"given a seemingly generous Thanksgiving meal in jail"

it actually said DINED in jail on a Thanksgiving meal that included turkey with dressing, yams, steamed greens and carrot cake.

it did not say that it was generous or anything more than sliced turkey with gravy, and a side of yams, greens and a little square of cake. actuallu no different that any other dinner we are required to feed prisoners. it was probably served on one of those square trays with little sections.

i like how gothamist and the post plays on words,
they prob ate a dinner meal on the same calendar day as the holiday, the same food that thousands of other prisoners at rikers ate. but somehow thats interpreted as having a special outrageous thanksgiving feast.

what do you expect from a newsblog that draws 90% of its material from the new york post?

gothamist definitely has some weird agenda that i doubt they can even articulate.

and yet, i keep coming back...

Addicts. I tell you we're all addicts.

And the alternative is what? People only accused of crimes are already held in jail until the trial. Many are found to be innocent after months behind bars. Should we just skip the trials then beat and starve them? Gothamist does know this is not Saudi Arabia, right?

Seemingly generous is an apt term.
These fucks (and all in jail) should be given the BARE MINIMUM.
Absolutely no special occasions or expenses.
It's jail, not pre-school.

Shitheads like these are a great example of why both the death penalty abortions should be legal.

I am so fauxoutraged about this, I could get up and make myself a leftover turkey sandwich!

For Thanksgiving, all prisoners should be fed roadkill...and carrot cake!

Assuming this was probably a sliced turkey "turkey dinner" much like that I remember from my high school cafeteria, road kill would likely be both tastier and more nutritious.

what was prob bulk institutional sized processed turkey loaf, becomes seemingly generous thanksgiving meal.

prisoners have the right to receive a three meals a day, even on thanksgiving. god forbid prisoners are allowed to countdown to midnight unless its called an outrageous new years celebration.

Our taxes will just be used to "rehabilitate" the animals, then let them loose on the street again to pillage. Put them on the cotton fields where God prescribes.

Shitheads like these are a great example of why both the death penalty abortions should be legal.

Carrot cake?! Carrot cake?! Oh, for the love of Jesus not carrot cake! The humanity!

Generous or not, dined or not...why feed prisoners turkey or anything else served on Thanksgiving? They are in jail & links to normal lives like that should be suspended - feed them franks & beans & fruit roll-ups, or something else far less festive.
